Steelers working out a pair of vets

The Steelers are reportedly working out a pair of veteran quarterbacks today in Todd Bouman and Patrick Ramsey.

It's likely, however, that it's a precautionary thing just in case something happens in Sunday's game against Baltimore to either Ben Roethlisberger or backup Dennis Dixon.

Dixon will be the team's only backup QB to Roethlisberger against the Ravens and possibly beyond.

Veteran backup Charlie Batch suffered a fracture in his left wrist last Sunday against Kansas City and had surgery on the wrist Wednesday.

Did the surgery on Batch's wrist go as expected? Is it still a 2-4 week thing?

Have they put any plays in the book for Dixon, so he can get a liitle taste for live action?

Maybe they'll put Dixon on kick coverage.

Disclaimer: There is sarcasm in this post.

Patrick,

If you keep up the sarcasm and otherwise nonserious comments, Mr. Lolley may have to start moderating this. That is not fair to him. Please keep your comments productive and to the point.

QB Charlie Batch (wrist), G Chris Kemoeatu (knee), S Troy Polamalu (knee) dis not practice Thursday as expected. DE Travis Kirschke (calf) and RB Willie Parker (hip) were limited. QB Ben Roethlisberger (head) practiced fully again. Seems TK may still be a week away. Friday I guess will be the true sign. Parker must of been dinged yesterday or today. Ben indeed seems a go!

I too took a bad face-forward fall (from a 4ft step)and caught myself by landing on my hands.

I ended up chipping the Tranquetrum bone (Google it) in my left wrist. I didn't need surgery or a cast but that sombich hurt for (4) weeks straight!

I can't see Batch (or anyone else) coming back any sooner than (4) weeks with a broken wrist!

It's his left wrist. Tony Pike has played with a similar injury. But they're looking at QBs just in case something happens this weekend. They want to have somebody in mind. It will save them a day of bringing guys in and having them work out. They can sign somebody right away.

As for Kirschke, it's a positive that he was able to practice two straight days - even partially. He's a vet and they don't necessarily need him to go through the full practice. Last week, he had to sit after one day.

Dale,

who is the dirtiest player on the Ravens squad?

Kirschke says he is playing after practice today. Good news.

Whats Neil O'Donnel doing these days?

This HAS to be a ploy to get the Ravens to prepare for Dixon. They would need to sign a QB if he TRULY thought he would sit out. When they sign someone to the active roster, then I will worry. http://blogs.nfl.com/2009/11/27/roethlisberger-may-sit-out/

Hanging out with Larry Brown I believe.
