The Steelers placed punter Daniel Sepulveda on the Reserve/Injured List
and made three other roster moves, the team announced today, bringing the team's
total number of players to 77 players (one international practice squad player).
Sepulveda (6-3, 230) injured his knee prior to the team's first preseason game and
had season-ending surgery the following week. The Steelers' first of two
fourth-round draft picks (112th overall) in the 2007 NFL Draft, Sepulveda was the
recipient of the Joe Greene Great Performance Award as a rookie, given annually to
the team's top rookie after averaging 44.3 yards per punt last season.
Additionally, the Steelers released quarterback Mike Potts, wide receiver Jeremy
Bloom and defensive lineman Martavius Prince.
The Steelers currently have 77 players on their roster due to the exemption of wide
receiver Marvin Allen, who will be a member of the team's practice squad this year
as part of the NFL's international player development program. The Steelers must
make one more roster move prior to tomorrow's 4 p.m. ET deadline to meet the NFL's
maximum roster limit.
To no one's surprise, Tomlin also named Hartwig as the starting center and "winner" of the "competition" with Sean Mahan.
ReplyDeleteYeah, that was the ho-hum news of the day.
ReplyDeleteWell, I might as well ask, who do you all think will be the last player cut before this deadline?
ReplyDeleteNow they should name Colon the starting RG and Starks the starting RT.
ReplyDeleteI mean thats what they should do if they, ya know, wanna WIN GAMES.
Not going to happen unless necessity
ReplyDeleteI would only be guessing at the last cut, but they didn't release any DBs today. Vincent could also go since they don't need five halfbacks for the final game.
Dale,
ReplyDeleteIt seems that you've been speculating that the Steelers will give up on McBean. Do you think that could end up being a mistake? I recently read an article about Orien Harris, saying that seems poised to make an impact this year with the Saints. Do you think that McBean will develop with time, or do you think that it is a lost cause?
Orien Harris, like Mcbean, fits the 4-3 UT role instead of the 3-4 DE role we drafted them for.
ReplyDeleteFootwork and finesse over bullrushing/brute strength.
As the previous poster mentioned, there have been a number of players who didn't fit in this defense that do well elsewhere.
ReplyDeleteThere have also been a number of players who did well here in this system who go elsewhere and don't mesh.
McBean, though, looks like somebody who isn't going to get it. Looks like Tarzan plays like Jane, as Craig Wolfley likes to say.
You see a flash every once in a while from McBean, but nothing consistent.
How about Roye? How has he looked? Are they comfortable with where he's at? Will he be a part of the rotation?
ReplyDeleteI thought Roye looked pretty good the other night against Minnesota. He pushed the pocket - albeit in the fourth quarter against second and third-teamers. But that's what he should do against that type of talent.
