Holmes' celebration costs him 10K

Steelers wide receiver Santonio Holmes has been fined $10,000 by the NFL for using the football as a prop following his game-winning touchdown catch in Super Bowl XLIII.

Holmes' celebration – pretending the ball was a powder dispenser and then throwing it into the air ala. LeBron James – did not draw a penalty flag during the Steelers' 27-23 win over Arizona, but it did cause a lot of griping.

Many felt Holmes should have been penalized – he should have – had the officials seen the event – they didn't.

Holmes' celebration came nearly a minute after his touchdown catch, after his teammates had left him. If you watch video of the play, you can see the official who was watching for any illegal celebrations walking away from Holmes before he went into his act.

Was Kurt Warner fined for taking off his helmet numerous times?

  2. Not to my knowledge, but I don't think that's something they fine for.
Use of the ball as a prop is something they do fine for. It's an automatic $10K.

They don't fine for it but taking your helmet off should be a 15 yard unsportsmanlike penalty

Neither was Holmes celebration. Should've been but wasn't. As far as I'm concerned the NFL fining Holmes 2 weeks after the Super Bowl is a prime example about how fcuking stupid people at NFL HQ are. Get over it. Steelers won, Holmes celebrated the biggest and greatest TD in NFL history. NFL, take your 10k and go cry about why your 401k's are worth pennies on the dollar

He taunted no one. He did it well after the play was over and noone even saw him because it was so subtle.
He celebrated in an understated way the winning catch of the super bowl . . . the biggest catch of his life and the nfl fines him?
    it is really ridiculous.

The NFL did it's job. It doesn't matter the magnitude of the catch. They review film and give out fines after every week. Just be happy that 15 yards weren't tacked on after the celebration. We might be singing a different tune right now. It was the best 10 grand he ever spent. Let Holmes worry about the fine, just be happy with our 6 S.B. victory and get ready for the stair way to SEVEN.

How much were the Ravens thug's fined for bragging about injuring Mendenhall and threatening Ward with a bounty on live radio?

NFL is not doing their job

i don't get it? isn't the ball also a prop when players dunk it over the field goal post? or when they spike it on the ground?

The NFL specifically mentions dunking and spiking as being allowed in the rule. There is no question that what Holmes did violates the rule & the NFL was right to fine him for it. They've been very consistent in doing that for all teams. And had the official seen him do it, it would have been a penalty on the kickoff - and the penalty would have been justified. Great job by 'Tone on that series but a stupid ending to it that could have proven very costly.

Almost as costly as Max Starks getting franchise tagged!

Max Starks gets tagged and Bmac is all but gone. It just doesn't make much sense to me. Did someone from the F.O. know another team was eyeing Starks and they think they will get the two number one picks when the other teams signs him?
Bmac will be going home. Hate to see him leave.

the greatest crime will be if the fine doesn't go to Sickle Cell. No?

Come on NFL, be aware...you know we luv ya ;)
