Just say no

According to published reports, wide receiver Brandon Marshall has requested a trade from the Denver Broncos and the team has agreed to pursue one.

Before all the questions start, let me nip this in the bud now. The Steelers will not be among teams interested in the troubled wideout.

Is Marshall talented? Yes.

Is he a knucklehead? Yes.

In fact, he's probably even more of a knucklehead than the much-more talented Randy Moss, and the Steelers weren't interested in him, either.

Somebody will take the chance that a change of scenery will help Marshal. Somebody will probably be wrong.

i'm of the mind that a celebrity's personal life is his/her own business but when it results in suspensions and problems for the team it has to be a consideration. how bad does your team have to be to bring in a kid with multiple domestic abuse reports?

it pays to be a steelers fan.

This is what the Broncos get for letting Cutler force his way out of town. They should have taken a stand with him, he would have gotten over it eventually.

I don't think anyone would advocate for Marshall. Where would he fit? Especially after they drafted Wallace.

What is funny though is how bad Denver's offseason was though. I think they got the better of the Cutler trade by a razor thin margin (even assuming that a franchise QB is next to irreplaceable). But even with that they are losing everything. They fired Shanahan and are now a mess. If they win 8 games next year I'd be suprised.

I'm not sure the Broncos got the better end of the trade yet. Cutler is overrated but he obviously has more skill and ability at the position than Orton. If you factor in the picks than Denver got a mediocre QB, a first round DE, traded the third round pick and got a back up blocking TE. If they do something with the extra first round pick next year than maybe they win but as it is I think the Bears are probably happier with how things went.

I can see one team which may take a run at him...the Eagles. If you put him into that lineup, as screwy as he is, that team could have some offensive firepower.

Eight wins? I'd say more like 5, and that's only because the rest of the division - other than San Diego - is awful.

to my credit, I did say if they won 8 "I'd be surprised" and when you play KC and OAK twice each, you only need 4 more to make that suprise happen.

The real point I'm trying to make is the drop off from being a game away from the playoffs to people on the Steelers blog debating whether the wins will be 7 or 5. I cannot remember a team that has had such an awful offseason in recent history - especially because this was self inflicted. If they never fired Shanahan we're not having this convo. (and I'm not even that big of a Shanahan fan).

Teams go up and down and bad teams usually have turnover, but Denver's case is just ridiculous and they weren't that bad of a team. At least they are getting rid of all the malcontents in a hurry. This team will be built in the image of McDaniels quickly. Unfortunately for him, he will probably last about as long as Joe Buck's TV show.

ZING!

(Thanks Artie)

That show was pretty bad.

It's funny when I saw all these young coaches get hired in the last two offseasons I knew some of them would be total disasters. Mcdaniels is my top candidate top be a total disaster.

Tomlin may be a young coach but he is mature beyond his years. He came into a good franchise (like the Broncos) and resisted the urge to change everything just to please his ego. Mcdaniels came in and alienated their franchise QB and opened the door for one of their best offensive weapons to demand a trade.

At least the the Broncos won't be on the hook for alot of money to players during the lockout.

The raiders or Cincy will pick him up

First of Dale, I love your postings.

I hate to even say this out loud. I am Steelers fan living in Donkey land (Denver). I really think that McDaniels will be fine.

Letting go of the cry baby, O I can't get my way because you tried to trade me Jay Cutler could only help the Broncos.

Now the next step is to get rid of Marshall. I don't care how much talent you have (see Plaxico Burress) if you think that you are greater then the city that you play for you need to go to Cincy.

Last point I will make is this is why I have love the Steelers. Sure we have drafted some knuckleheads as well (Santonio), but when you light a fire underneath their rearend they have a tendency to produce. Way to go Santonio!!

so, if the Chiefs and Browns are awful again this year can we start talking about how none of the New England alumni have panned out?

Dale,

With all of this negative news concerning contracts and disgruntled players, it makes one appreciate the way that the Steelers do business. The team's policy of waiting until the final year to negotiate a new deal for a player (starting QBs being the exception) and then not negotiating during the regular season really takes care of a lot of this nonsense.

I guess having the best scouting department in the NFL helps to reinforce their stand as well. Just like Tomlin says, "I'll tolerate you until I can replace you."

Need to wait for McDaniels to take his turn in Cleveland so you know that they all had the same chance!

He is very talented. Ravens and Browns are rumored to be interested. I am fine with him going to Cleveland as that whole team is a disaster. But with Flacco, Marshall in Baltimore is a BIG problem for the Steelers. He would help that team significantly no matter what he odes off the field.

You're assuming he doesn't do something stupid and get himself suspended.

Dale,

Any news on this?

Something tells me stephen logan will be on that list. Wouldn't mind if Matt Spaeth got cut as well but it won't happen.

Viz-Burgh said...

The cuts aren't to send any message. Bouchette is reporting that we signed 3 more draft picks today. So they're just clearing roster space for these official signings.

Mike Wallace, Sonny Harris & A.Q. Shipley now officially on the team.

the Steelers also released six players – defensive end Jeff Bradley, long-snapper Mark Estermyer, wide receivers Jayson Foster and Cedric Goodman, quarterback Kevin McCabe and fullback Ryan Powdrell.

Viz-Burgh said...

I'm a bit surprised by Mark Estermyer just because I thought they'd want a second long snapper in camp besides Greg Warren. Maybe A.Q. Shipley will be the #2 snapper since he's got experience doing it.

Also a little surprised with Powdrell just because he was the only true FB on the roster. Then again, with Arians offense of choice, I guess I shouldn't be surprised that a FB isn't considered to be a need.

What do we need a true FB for? You could plainly see that running out of our singleback formation was very effective last year at the goaline.

That was sarcasm for any homers that might actually think that statement was correct.
