Who I like

First, let's address the injury issues. Both Hines Ward and William Gay will likely be out for the Steelers' game against Cleveland Thursday.

But with heavy winds and snow forecast, that might not be all that significant. This game will come down to an old-fashioned running contest.

In that kind of matchup, you have to like the Steelers, even though the weather conditions may make things a little tricky.

Brady Quinn has struggled mightily with his accuracy on his deep passes and his young receiving corps has struggled holding onto the football on a regular basis.

That makes this a perfect game to see what rookie cornerbacks Joe Burnett and Keenan Lewis have to offer.

Much like their game in Cleveland last year, a 10-6 win in heavy winds, the Steelers will win a game that is closer than it should be, 14-7.

© With Ward out, rookie receiver Tyler Grisham has been promoted from the practice squad to give the Steelers a fourth receiver.

Any idea why they didn't bring back McDonald? Does Grisham help on special teams? You would think they would want McDonald's experience on the field.

Or Arians will dust off Mularkey's gameplan from the old Jets game airshow during a horizontal blizzard.

What makes you say Gay is out? And why did he get all the starter reps yesterday, as reported.

  3. So what Gay is out. No one will miss him, or Ike either.

Hey Dale whats the story with Grisham?? Will he ever be more than a practice player?

  6. I don't know what's up with McDonald. He may have turned down their offer to return for one week, knowing that Ward will likely be back next week.
Besides, Grisham has been here all season.
He's a tough kid, runs good routes and has decent speed. I know they've liked the looks he's given them in practice.

As for Gay, I was told they'll likely hold him out for his own good, particularly with the league looking so closely at concussions.

  8. what are you 4 years old?

I'll take the Steelers 23-14 with Josh Cribbs running a KR back despite the conditions.

based on the poll on this page, 95% of you were completely wrong about the Steelers record this season.

Think about that on your way to the Krab, Patrick.

actually, i picked them to be 10-6 this season.

  15. Anonymous9:11 AM

because picking 8-8 in august was so logical.

Most of you make no sense.

actually, since the nfl went to a 16 game schedule in 1978 the steelers have had 4 or less losses only 6 times.

picking them to be 12-4 or better would be against probability and to some would seem illogical.

To "Anonymous" (Patrick, just use your own login already):

Obviously, you are part of the "most of you" to which you refer (the 95% who thought they would have a better record than they could possibly have now). Maybe you weren't paying attention the previous time the Steelers won the Super Bowl. Check their record the following season, genius.

  18. Dale, how is Mendenhall's ankle? Will he be 100% tonight?

    ReplyDelete
  19. I had nothing to do with that post. (I'm always logged in from gmail). But if you check what I wrote before the season, I thought they would be much better, yes. Not denying that.

But who predicated any different? What was your prediction genuis? You're obvsiously sucumbing to a hindsight bias.

The point was basically that we're all full of crap.

  21. Mendenhall will be fine. They'll lean heavily on the running game in this one.

Why give Gay all the snaps with the 1st team if they plan on holding him out, as valuable as they are? On a short week at that? Sounds counter-productive if they really do intend on holding him out..

Any light you can shed on this Dale?
