Pro Football Weekly released its All-NFL and All-Rookie teams and there were no Steelers on either roster.
To me, this is a much better list than the AP All-Pro team because it's voted on by the members of the Pro Football Writers of America, of which I am a member.
These are the guys who see all the games, talk to players on a daily basis and cover the league more in depth than some of the people who vote in the AP. It's also more inclusive than the AP vote, which is done by 50 people.

No offense, Dale, but you claim it's a better list (mostly because you helped create it), but it's almost identical to the AP All-Pro team.
ReplyDeleteAnd how in the world does Mike Wallace not make at least the #2 receiver on the all-rookie team?
I thought the same thing about Wallace, but Collie did have 60 catches for 676 yards and seven touchdowns.
ReplyDeleteIt's debatable, but I can't fault the pick.
You're going to have a lot of similarities on the two All-Pro teams. But there are some differences. Plus, the rookie team is always interesting.
The rookie team is pretty much a joke, they just elected a lot of players that were starters, regardless of performance. Andy Levitre? Tyson Jackson?
ReplyDeleteAre they supposed to vote for bench players?
ReplyDeleteSure, if the bench player plays better than the starter in the minutes he gets. Should quantity be honored over quality?
ReplyDeleteI guess I was mostly thrown off by the inclusion of Tyson Jackson, who was rated by profootballfocus.com as the worst 3-4 DE in the league by far. For example, Ziggy Hood was rated much higher despite only having 1/3 the snaps.
The Kaeding pick made you all look kind of bad...
ReplyDeleteThe few times I saw Levitre he looked OK considering the guys he had around him. If Jason Peters spent the season beside him he would have looked much more solid.
ReplyDeleteEric Wood looks like the kid from Bad Santa.
ReplyDeleteJust sayin.
I can't argue with either list, but my personal bias for Mike Wallace does cause me a little disappointment. I suppose the reason he's not on the list is because his team didn't go to the playoffs and the Colts did.
ReplyDeletedallas clark should not be listed as a TE. he rarely lines up as a TE, he rarely blocks as a traditional TE. if they want to create another position category that's fine, but i think it's unfair to the other TE's in the league.
ReplyDeleteI still don't get how Woodson gets the nod over Revis for Defensive POY. It's not even a close call in my mind or on the stat sheet. Revis changes the game by shutting down the opposing #1 receiver.
ReplyDeleteI voted for Revis - as regular readers of this blog know. I didn't think Woodson was deserving. Yes, he had the picks - he can catch the ball. But he had far more defensive pass interference and holding penalties than interceptions.
ReplyDeleteAs for Kaeding, the guy missed three field goals all season. It's a regular season thing.
In many cases when guys are voting for rookies, they vote stats - they almost have to. The guys who play are the guys who get voted for - particularly on the lines.
This isn't the first time Kaeding has choked in the playoffs. I don't care one way or the other about the All Pro teams, but he is overrated.
