Steelers announce preseason opponents

The Steelers will play one nationally televised preseason game and will host the Detroit Lions and Carolina Panthers at Heinz Field during the 2010 preseason, the team announced today.

The Steelers will open the 2010 preseason at home against the Detroit Lions. It will be the first time the Lions have visited Heinz Field in the preseason since 2001 when the Steelers hosted Detroit in the stadium’s inaugural game. KDKA-TV (Channel 2) will televise the game locally.

“We think it is fitting to open our 2010 preseason schedule against Dick LeBeau’s former team the week after he will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame,” said Steelers President Art Rooney II. “It will also be the first opportunity for our fans to see us in game action as we prepare for what should be an exciting 2010 season.”

The Steelers will conclude the preseason at home in Week 4 when they host the Carolina Panthers in a locally televised game at Heinz Field.

The Steelers’ preseason road schedule includes a Week 2 visit to the New York Giants. It will be the Giants’ first home game in their new stadium and the first preseason game between the teams since the Steelers visited the Giants in 1993. Ironically, the Steelers hosted the Giants in the inaugural preseason game at Three Rivers Stadium in 1970.

The Steelers’ lone nationally televised game will take place on Sunday, Aug. 29 (Week 3), when the Steelers play the Broncos in the preseason for the first time in team history. The game will kick off at 8 p.m. at INVESCO Field at Mile High and will be televised on FOX.

The times and dates for the Steelers’ three locally televised games have yet to be finalized.

i find that scheduling to be very poor. it is no secret as to ryan clark's medical problems the last time he played in denver. so the nfl decides to send the steelers there in the 3rd week of preseason, which is typically when the starters get the most work.

the nfl has switched games before for the regular season when team's have complained about playing the steelers in prime time on opening day. but they couldn't maneuver the preseason to accomodate a potential life threatening medical condition? poor.

  5. Its not an issue - Ryan doesn't play the 3rd preseason game. Who cares? Its the preseason for a reason and he's been here plenty long that he doesn't need an extra 2 quarters to learn the defense.

  8. When I first saw the Steelers sign both Randle El and Battle, I assumed that it was because they had given up on Limas Sweed but now I'm not so sure. Sweed may not be in their plans, but it may also be because they don't plan to try to keep Holmes beyond this season, especially after his latest incident (even though he's not getting criminal charges).

Who do you think their starting WR will be in 2011?

My guess is that it will be Wallace and Ward (with Randle El as insurance) and they will draft someone in the early to mid rounds as the eventual replacement.

Holmes will still be a restricted FA next year if no new CBA is reached.

I'd love to see them draft Golden Tate, but there won't be room on the roster for him, plus they have more immediate needs like a #2 CB and a RG.

  10. You guys need to stop cyber-bullying Patrick. He's going to end up hanging himself from a doorknob, and the police are going to trace it back to you.

  11. There won't be any drama with Clark. There's no reason to play him in a preseason game in Denver. Plus, it will allow them to get Allen some playing time with Polamalu.

As for who the receivers will be in 2011, let's wait and see if there will be a 2011 season.
