The Steelers have announced the dates and times of their four games during the 2010 preseason. All four games will kickoff during primetime.
The Steelers will begin the 2010 preseason on Saturday, Aug. 14 at 7:30 p.m. when they host the Detroit Lions at Heinz Field.
Two consecutive preseason road games will feature the Steelers at the New York Giants on Saturday, Aug. 21 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 29 at 8 p.m. at the Denver Broncos.
The Steelers will conclude the preseason at Heinz Field on Thursday, Sept. 2 at 7:30 p.m. against the Carolina Panthers.
Every Steelers preseason game, with the exception of Week 3 at Denver, will be televised locally on KDKA-TV (Channel 2). The Denver game will be televised nationally on FOX. Fans can listen to all four Steelers preseason games on the Steelers Radio Network on WDVE-FM (102.5) and WBGG-AM (970) in Pittsburgh.
I will be watching to see how Hood, Lewis and Burnett do this year.
ReplyDeleteI would expect all three to take big leaps forward, particularly Hood, who got a decent amount of playing time last season and, obviously, has the pedigree.
ReplyDeletei will like to see how they make a stronger commitment to the run game. will it be specific "heavy" type formations or will they just call the same run plays more often?
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know if these games will be on satellite radio? I just bought a car with Sirius and I know regular season games are broadcast but I'm not sure if the preseason is too.
ReplyDeleteyo DL, what is the deal with all these WR's visiting?
ReplyDeleteI really don't get it
I am really skeptical about Arians changing his offensive philosophy and running the ball more often. Maybe he will run more in game where we have a comfortable lead but in any close game I expect him to revert to his non stop passing attack. Ben is a great QB but too much of our offense involves him running around in the pocket while our WR's do the scramble drill. We have gotten alot of big plays out of that but it really limits the consistancy and overall effectivness of the offense, especially when you have no reliable running game to counterbalance Ben's high risk high reward playstyle.
ReplyDeleteWe had an offense like that in 05.
I mean to say we had an offense with a reliable running game to couterbalance Ben's style in 05.
ReplyDeleteI think if we had a running game like in 05 combinged with Ben's increased experience at QB our offense could be top 7 or thereabouts.
hey dale,
ReplyDeleteby brother-in-law in pittsburgh tells me people think tomlin needs to go. is this true or is he blowing smoke?
I don't know what people you're talking about Marc. The racists, maybe?
ReplyDeleteAs for the visiting WRs, I reported last month that Tate was on their visit list. As for the other guy, he seems to be slipping a little after his pro day and could be available when they pick. They're just doing their homework.
Plus, you bring those guys in and if somebody wants them - who is sitting at, say pick 25 - they may be inclined to trade up if they think the Steelers have an interest.
I know teams blow smoke, but this is a lot of top talent WR's coming in for visits.
ReplyDeleteI would never have thought a WR would be a pick in the entire draft, but now I'm thinking they could pull the trigger if one falls to the 2nd. Like what happened with Sweed.
Wasting a visit on Dez Bryant isn't a very convincing smokescreen, because everyone knows the Steelers would never draft that guy. Golden Tate is a realistic possibility.
ReplyDeleteCalling someone racist because they don't like Tomlin? Perhaps you should keep your self hating white guilt out of a football blog.
ReplyDeleteI don't have any self-hating white guilt. I'm just speaking the truth.
ReplyDeleteWhat has the guy done to deserve to be fired? Win a Super Bowl?
Make the playoffs in two of three years?
So if people are calling for him to be fired, what are the grounds?
Don't try to assume you know me or try to tell me what I can and can't put on MY blog.
You right, I shouldn't assume I know you based on the VERY limited amount I know about you. Which is the reason I dislike your assertion that someone is racist because they don't like Tomlin. Football fans are crazy. They turn on players and coaches with great records all the time. Some people hate Ben now and for all anyone knows he never did anything wrong. It doesn't mean they are racist.
ReplyDeleteYou are right that you can put anything you like on a blog you operate out of kindness to fans.
he wasn't calling the people who hate tomlin racists. he was wondering aloud what kind of fans would hate a good, super bowl winning coach. one sect of those fans would in fact be those who are racist.
ReplyDeleteAll racists hate tomlin
not all tomlin haters are racist
we clear now
wow, it's amazing the direction a conversation can take sometimes.
ReplyDeletemy brother-in-law seems to think tomlin does not have control of the team and that tomlin needs to go. he also says many people feel that way, but that could just be his group of friends i suppose.
i like tomlin as a head coach. however, i can say i started to doubt him a little more this past season. not because of wins and losses, but rather i feel he gives to much control to his coordinators.
All I know, is that the fact that A FEW fans hate tomlin is better, way better, than the situation other teams are in right now
ReplyDeleteWe are blessed to have tomlin, and especially blessed to have the rooney's, who love tomlin. That's all we need.
If a few people hate tomlin, cool, it's not like their opinion matters. The rooney's will keep tomlin for at least 10 more years. That's just the way they work
the guy helped us win a superbowl and he's only been here three years. Damn him!!
I'm not a Tomlin fan and I could spend 3 hours typing why. Absolutely nothing to do with his color and everything to do with his poor decisions over the years.
ReplyDeleteI also think theres not as a strong a connection between Tomlin and Colbert as there was between Cowher and Colbert. Prime example is drafting a RB in the 1st Rd that is hardly used. If that is the offense you are going to use, then you could get what you need out of that kind of RB off of the street, not in the 1st. Hopefully that changes this year.
Timmons is also way better suited for a 4-3 and yet we draft him at 14. I like Timmons, don't get me wrong, but he is playing out of position in the 3-4.
Timmons is best suited for any of the three lb positions he isn't playing. To say he isn't a 3-4 lb at all is another Patrickism.
ReplyDeleteDale, another guy on the roster along with Sunny Harris is Steve McLendon. I really liked the guy as an athlete in his limited snaps in the preseasn last year. Understand that the Steelers like him as well.
ReplyDeleteIs he in the mix? What I saw was a big man with very good agility who looks to be around the ball a lot and has a good motor. I read one glowing review of him and then he seemed to drop off the page completely.
(I think anyone can be criticized but I am not sure how Tomlin "should be gone" after just 3 years and a 31-17 record, 2 first place AFCN finishes, a Super Bowl win and a template for other teams to follow when looking for a coach. Time after time I hear teams are looking for a "Mike Tomlin type" who is young enough to relate to the players yet has the leadership and knowledge to succeed in a very tough league. Criticize him? Of course. But to say he should be fired is asinine and DOES make you wonder what the criteria is for him to succeed in some peoples minds)
I'd agree Timmons is better suited to be playing Farrior's position. but that doesn't make him a good fit for this defense. Watch the tape, Timmons is not the best block shedder in the world. He would not be good as an OLB because as soon as he hits contact with a blocker, (see him on the Ravens RB's for proof) hes done. He has the speed, no doubt, but hes not the most physical guy - most of his big plays come from straight line contact.
ReplyDeleteHis best impact is on 3rd down, regardless of the defense, but you don't spend a pick that high for that kind of LBer.
In my opinion, (so a "Patrickism") that pick showed the difference in the style of D Tomlin prefers. Timmons is best suited for the Derrick Brooks kinds of role, and a 3-4 doesn't lend itself to that role .
i agree with your assessment of timmons. he does not appear to shed blockers well at all.
ReplyDeleteMcClendon will get a chance to prove he belongs again in this camp. But, really, he's just a body at this point.
ReplyDeleteAs for Timmons, don't forget that last season was just his second NFL season after playing full-time in just one college season. He's learning and getting better.
Remember, too, that it took James Farrior several seasons to become what he eventually did - a Pro Bowl performer. He couldn't get on the field for several seasons in New York and was considered a bust.
