The Steelers released four players and placed another on the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform List, reducing their roster to 75 players.
The four players released include OT Adrian Jones, LB Brandon Renkart, CB David Pittman and FB Dwayne Wright. Rookie OT Chris Scott was placed on the Reserve/PUP List and will be out for six weeks. After six weeks, Scott will be able to practice with the team for three weeks before the Steelers determine whether or not to add him to their active roster. Scott injured his foot prior to the start of training camp and has yet to practice with the team.
The Steelers also announced that veteran LB Andre Frazier was waived from the Reserve/Injured List.
© In other news, the Steelers have confirmed that Ben Roethlisberger will meet with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell on Friday to discuss his impending suspension and whether or not it will be reduced from six games to four.
damn, was hoping they cut Flozell :(
ReplyDeleteWhat if they make it 5 instead of 4? That would suck. I answered my own question.
ReplyDeleteOur bye week is week five.
ReplyDeleteIt's games, not weeks, so if they only reduce it to 5 games Ben misses 4 games, then the bye, and then 1 game after they bye. The advantage of his suspension being reduced to 4 games is precisely because of the bye week as it would give him two weeks back with the team to practice and get in sync before his first game back.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Ben should of carried a loaded semi automatic hand gun to the airport ala Shaun Rodgers of the Cleveland Browns so that the commissioner Godall could of fined Ben a week's gamecheck instead of passing sentence and judgement based on a drunk twenty year old recolection.Better yet maybe he can start a fight in side of a strip club....The commissioner needs to be more level handed in his judgements ...
ReplyDeletepattern of behavior might have something to do with it.
ReplyDeleteThe commissioner pretty much said it will be 6 or 4 when he visited Latrobe.
ReplyDeleteHe said when he handed out the suspension that it could be reduced to four games if Roethlisberger did what was asked of him.
He has said numerous times that Roethlisberger has done everything asked of him and more.
It will be four games.
I'm kind of sick of the comparisons between Goodell's punishing Ben and someone else's incident.
ReplyDeleteLike marc said, Ben was accused of sexual assault, twice. You can make all the excuses you want, but clearly Ben wasn't an angel. Theres also no doubt he contributed to underage drinking.
Relative to other suspensions, is it harsh? Probably. But heres the thing, if the league didn't do it, the Steelers were going to suspend him themselves. The only one complaining about the punishment are the fans, not Ben, not the Steelers. Those same fans wanted him cut/traded/castrated a few months ago.
Time to let it go. Ben screwed up and he's missing 4 games because of it.
Patricia, u go girl!
ReplyDeleteDale, looks like the NV Supreme Court will decide the venue of the civil case shortly. A trial date, jury selection and the trial itself could come during the season. I'd assume the defendent would have to be present for the trial itself.
ReplyDeleteDo you know if the Steelers have planned for this possibility?
If BR would be lose the case, do you think he would face a second suspension?
"If BR would be lose the case, do you think he would face a second suspension?"
ReplyDeleteLOL, r u serious?
If the Nevada courts would rule to start the trial during the season, Ben's lawyers would appeal for a later date and likely get it. Since it's only about monetary compensation, there's no hurry.
ReplyDeleteDale, I agree, but they seemed to have an excellent case for a change of venue and that has gone all the way to the NV SC.
ReplyDelete"If BR would be lose the case, do you think he would face a second suspension?"
ReplyDeleteLOL, r u serious?
Absolutely serious. Do a search for Nevada gov Jim Gibbons divorce. Calvin Dunlap represents the wife. This guy is an expert at digging up incriminating evidence. He's been doing it for a long time and doesn't take prisoners. He's managed to make the defense team take their change of venue request all the way to Nevada's top court which is an indication of how hard he's going to fight for his client.
What does how hard the woman's lawyer is going to fight for her have to do with whether or not Ben will get suspended again if he loses the case? He won't get suspended again for that incident, part of the reason he got suspended this year is be because of that case so that would be like punishing him twice. Plus, its just a civil case, not criminal. After the suspension this year the only thing the Nevada civil case is gonna cost Ben is money and bad press.
ReplyDeleteThere would have to be some shocking and conclusive revelation during that case to get him suspended again.
ReplyDeleteAs someone else said, its a civil case, the evidence is only by preponderence. I'm sure Ben's lawyers have their heels dug in as well and will do whatever they can to not let the trial go on during the season.
I'd actually be suprised if that thing ever gets to trial.
back to football, what are the odds #7 starts tonite?
ReplyDeleteI'd say they are pretty good. He took all the first-team snaps this week.
ReplyDeletewell, if #7 plays at all with the 1's tonite then the coaching staff has officially botched the preparation of a QB for the first month of the season.
ReplyDeleteseriously, the week 1 starting QB MUST take all the snaps with the 1's in this game.
dale, i just read your article in the Observer. it was good in that it stated the facts. However, i am more interested in your opinion. do you think it is wise that Ben has gotten so much work with the first team?
ReplyDeletewouldn't the two weeks leading up to his return (bye week and game week) have been enough?
do you think there is any way that this offense will be ready for opening day?
i think we will need 24 points to beat the Falcons.
Tomlin and Arainis the NFL version of dumb and dummer... and were stuck with this tird for a few more years...
ReplyDelete... so says the genius who can't spell "we're", "turd" or "dumber"
ReplyDeleteI don't think Ben should get the first-team snaps with the 1s tonight, but he will. I really think Tomlin has botched this.
ReplyDeleteI guess he's treating Ben's suspension like an injury. The No. 2 doesn't get many, if any, first-team snaps during the season. But he's expected to step in and play when called upon.
We'll see if it works.
Leftwich says he's ready.
due to Ben's suspension, are the Rooneys giving Tomlin a mulligan this year?
ReplyDeletehave you gotten a sense from management, players, coaches that expectations are lowered this year?
