Steelers release 10

The Steelers released 10 players from their preseason roster today in an effort to get down to the NFL’s 53-man limit for the regular season.

The following players were released by the Steelers: TE Eugene Bright, OG Dorian Brooks, OT Kyle Jolly, WR Brandon London, TE Sean McHugh, DT Scott Paxson, LS Matt Stewart, S Justin Thornton, RB Justin Vincent and LB Renauld Williams.

The Steelers must release 11 additional players by 6 p.m. on Saturday.

No real surprises in this list. The tough cuts will come Saturday.

Only minor surprise was Stewart. I thought they brought him in to replace Warren because his knees were still messed up.

  2. Inside Pittsburgh Sports is reporting Summers got the boot. Pretty surprised by that. Looks like JD made it

Here's link I saw on message board http://insidepittsburghsports.com/story/agent-steelers-release-frank-summers/29168/

  3. I thought that was a slight surprise as well since Warren isn't running well. But Warren is the better long snapper.

As for Summers, I got the cuts directly from the team and Summers was not one of them.

That said, they could decide to go that direction if they feel they can't get Dwyer to the practice squad. I don't see this team keeping five RBs.

FINAL 11 TO GO: Burnett, Harris, Worthington, Bailey, Hartwig, Urbik, Jones, Logan, Summers, Cromartie-Smith, and Grisham. You heard it here first.

The last cuts are going to be nasty. I imagine it's probably Burnett vs. Madison, and Harris/Worthington vs. Sylvester.

I'm guessing Harris is the odd man out. He's had a couple of years to impress and it didn't happen. The other two still appear to have a lot of upside.

  8. SteelRose, very nice list. I would swap Madison for Burnett and Worthington for Frazier. Special teams has really been improved this preseason with the additions of Worilds, Sylvester & Gibson.

Foote/Fox can take over on the inside in case of an injury any LB position and Timmons can move outside if necessary (Woodley/ Harrison injury).

This group of starting linebackers could be similar to Lloyd, Brown, Kirkland & Greene in terms of production this year.

Hey Joe, um Worthington for Frazier? You do know Frazier was injured, placed on IR then cut right? I also like Burnett some, but Butler has beat him- badly, and Madison is a special teams ace. Butler can play ALL CB spots, and also safety. Thats THE definition of position flexibility. Im also not 100% sold on Eason, just waiting for his newly trimmed bowels to fall apart. I really like Worthington, he's a Keisel clone. But we arent keeping 5 DEs. As we hear every year, its a numbers game.

I think we should keep 5 RBs this year, since we are going to be running the next 4 weeks, need those fresh legs in the 4th qtrs. Then when BR comes back release one of them.

well since summers is gone at the moment we have 4, and I do not see Vincent as roster worthy. Unless you count david johnson as a runningback? He's more of a tight end/fullback- or HBack

  12. Sorry SteelRose, missed the Frazier injury when I was in England. Evidently was old news by the time I got back.

I think Burnett would be picked up by someone else, only in 2nd year. It was proven last year that Madison can be picked up midseason if necessary.

  13. I bow down in your honor SteelRose.

Out of 9 picks in the 2009 draft, only 4 are left with the Steelers, K Lewis, Wallace, Hood & D Johnson. That surprises me that over 50% of your draft is let go within 18 months.
