Keisel expected to return

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday he expects defensive end Brett Keisel to return after missing the past two games with a hamstring injury.

In fact, the only player Tomlin listed as unlikely to play this week is Aaron Smith.

Only Flozell Adams and Isaac Redman, who both suffered ankle sprains in the loss at New Orleans, will be limited in practice this week. Both are expected to play Monday at Cincinnati.

Tomlin again refused to speculate how long Smith, who suffered a triceps muscle tear two weeks ago, will be out of action.

He did say he was pleased with how Ziggy Hood played in Smith's absence.

Seriously though, was Tomlin asked about their failure to deal with an all out blitz? I understand if the hot receiver doesn't break his route quick enough, or Ben misses a throw (both still not good, but it happens), but why were ther no slants or quick throws to the WR's? In many spots the Db's were playing waaay off. It makes no sense. You can't expect to have every team just let you go bombs away every game! You have to make them respect the short stuff!!

  3. They tried some of that stuff and missed on it or were stoned. Ward's first two catches were for a combined 3 yards.

  4. Dale,

were you surprised the Steelers waived Thad Gibson? is Arnez Battle really that good of a special teamer? Batch wasn't willing to wait by the phone in case of an emergency?

  5. Gibson wasn't going to help them win this year.

  6. i didn't think the Steelers drafted Gibson for this year. i thought they drafted him for next year and beyond. do you think this move was shortsighted or are 3-4 OLBs not that hard to find these days?

  7. Gibson was a decent prospect but lets not anoint him as a future starter. We have Lamaar Woodley and Jason Worilds as the long term answers on the outside and Lawrence Timmons and Stevenson Sylvester as the future on the inside. I hate to lose the guy too but the long term viability of our linebacking corps is solid.

  8. the release of Gibson instills confidence in me that they will do whatever it takes to resign Woodley.

I'm not sure signing Woodley would be a great move...he will want #1 pass rusher money but I don't think he is that talented. Ibelieve he has reached his ceiling as far as ability and if he would someday be moved over to Harrison's side and face better tackles I think his production would plummet.

i'm still trying to find any video of ward's helmet to helmet hit. let me know if any of you see it.

dale, with macfadden and gay being chewed up and spit out do you see any other DB's getting more practice time with the 1st group?

  11. we still laugh about holmgren's poor clock management in the super bowl. tomlin is continuing with this and it did play one part in the loss...wasn't laughing sunday

he claims they couldn't see replays ? then what made him make another poor challenge the first time ??
it wasn't going to be easy at all in the dome, but i saw an unprepared team and coaching staff making too many mistakes. "not ready for the noise" ?? are you kidding me ??
tomlin has to correct his poor clock management, leave the challenge flag at home, and stop being so "ok" with all the darn penalties.
apparently no coach is ever going to tell ben to throw it away either.

  12. "All the penalties?" They had four in that game. I don't know what you're talking about there.

  13. talking about comparing the penalties in the first four games, to the next three. the late hit was big and the right call, then he nearly got another late hit.
do you think tomlin did a good job sunday ?
