Mike Tomlin had some pretty good injury news Tuesday, all things considered.
Ben Roethlisberger will be limited early in the week with his foot injury, but should be ready to go Sunday against Baltimore. Roethlisberger is in a walking boot, but that's more of a precautionary thing to help allow more healing to take place.
Rookie wide receiver Antonio Brown, who sat out with a swollen knee worked out Tuesday morning and Tomlin is optimistic Brown will be available to play at Baltimore Sunday.
Nick Eason, who suffered a sprained MCL against Buffalo, is feeling better Tuesday and, though he'll be limited early in the week, he could play against Baltimore.
The same could be said of cornerback Bryant McFadden, who left last Sunday's game with a hamstring injury, though Tomlin did note that hamstrings are tricky.
Troy Polamalu, as he has been the past couple of weeks, will be limited again in practice. Tomlin said the team is just taking precautions to make sure Polamalu stays healthy down the stretch.
Brett Keisel, hamstring, will be a full participant in practice this week and the Steelers are moving forward with the thought he'll play Sunday.
Tight end Matt Spaeth will get some post-concussion tests to determine his availability.
Thanks Dale. Pretty good news overall. Did Tomlin say anything about Butler getting a shot to play if McFadden can't go?
ReplyDeletehe said Butler would play, but only if hes willing to unleash hell in December.
ReplyDeleteAfter hearing that, Butler asked to be released.
well, the division basically comes down to this game. i'm looking foward to a hard hitting game.
ReplyDeletealso, i think they have run the randle el pass two weeks in a row (or 2 out of the last 3 weeks). i would love to see them run something off of that and catch the ravens off guard.
I think the Steelers go with a trick play early on special teams or on offense to try and get a lead on Baltimore because points will be hard to come by.
ReplyDeleteI hope they ram Mendenhall up the middle on first-and-10 alot.
ReplyDeleteSeriously, these are the kind of games you give $100 million to the QB to win. Here's hoping Jonathan Scott gives him a chance, and that they don't have too many 2nd-and-11s. Ravens' O-line is banged up too, by the way.
Sounds like McFadden is out to me, based on my previous Tomlin readings.
I hate the Aaron Smith teasing.
Harrison just got fined $25k for the hit on Fitzpatrick. What a disgrace.
ReplyDeleteWhats the record for penalties in a game? The next one should break it.Let hope the refs know the dirty birds hit hard too.
ReplyDelete22 penalties is the record for a game, happening three times, last in 1998. I don't think we see that many flags.
ReplyDeletePatrick,
ReplyDeleteYou are a broken record. Please stop pretending that an offhand remark at a press conference was indicative of anything. Was Harbaugh's dumbass shovel and sword nonsense (which included him brandishing an actual shovel and sword in his locker room) the reason his team lost the AFC championship game against the Steelers?
You don't like Tomlin. We get it. You still have no good reason for it. Until he has a losing season, kindly clam up.
its a blog. I'll say whatever what I want.
ReplyDeleteand his unleash hell comment was so dumb I think I'll repeat it every year when december approaches. And you can come on here and cry about it and change your pampers.
I watched the game but can's say I payed much attention to the play of Urbik...Did he play like someone the Steelers should have given up on so easily?
ReplyDeleteWhisenhunt would never talk about unleashing hell. I wish the Steelers had hired him.
ReplyDeleteYou leave me no option than to get all internet and accuse you of being racist. Way to go. All because winning isn't good enough, right? The Jets could use some more bandwagon fans, their coach Never says anything dumb, might be something to consider.
ReplyDeleteDale, Bouchette said on The Fan that Dan Rooney is pretty hot about the whole rules change in midseason and all the penalties. He said he thinks Rooney has already let Goodell know what he thinks. Is this also something you're hearing?
ReplyDeleteracist? you must be 12
ReplyDeleteI never once mentioned his race at all. Thats ridiculous.
it was a joke. lighten up. you'd think someone who makes the worst jokes on a football blog would have a higher tolerance.

ReplyDeleteI expect us to break the record for penalties this coming weekend and for the NFL La Cosa Nostra to let Baltimore twist Ben in half followed by no flags.
ReplyDeleteDale,
ReplyDeleteJust wondering if Jets DB James Ihedigbo got fined for his hit on Carson Palmer which was exactly the same hit Harrison put on Fitzpatrick?
Tomlin didn't mention anything about Butler, so I would assume he'll be back at practice this week. I would imagine he'll be competing with Keenan Lewis.
ReplyDeleteUrbik was so bad throughout his two camps it would have been criminal to keep him over the guys they kept.
yeah, I remember dale specifically joking that he could make the team over urbik
ReplyDeleteSome young guys just need that wake up call after being cut. Too bad he didn't work out for the steelers
he had a nice game against his former team. But that's what it was. ONE game
Dale,
ReplyDeleteAny thoughts on the further fine for Harrison? Is the front office "raising hell"(as Patrick would say) with the NFL?
Most of his hits wouldn't have even been flagged last year let alone fined. Yet people throwing punches are all getting the same or less money in their fines.
Thanks,
Chris

ReplyDeleteHarrison will appeal this fine as well. Possibly he may win this one. It was very borderline in terms of a fine.
ReplyDeleteNow, as an aside. I will not tolerate some of the language, name-calling and inuendo that has taken place in this thread.
Please do not make me put the filter on the blog. You guys won't like having to get all of your posts moderated by me before they go up and I don't want to have to moderate them.
I really hope the appeal process works for Harrison, but let's face it, he's appealing to the same people that fined him in the first place... And his last appeal was denied. Big surprise.
ReplyDeleteDale,
ReplyDeleteWhat are your thoughts on Keenan Lewis? From watching him during the past 2 years, I think he is clearly a safety and not a CB. He doesn't have the confidence to turn and run with NFL-caliber WR's. I've also read where some scouts feel that Ryan Clark has become a liability in coverage and are saying that he doesn't run well anymore. And lastly, is it time to get rookie CB C. Butler some experience playing in the nickel D? I think he could end up being a starter for this team in the near future. Thoughts?
They played a lot of dime on Sunday against the Bills, so the opportunity is there to get younger guys more PT.
ReplyDeleteButler was hurt, but I'm sure he'll be competing with Lewis for an active spot this week.
I do think Clark has lost a step - not that he ever had one to begin with.
Dale,
ReplyDeleteDo you think E. Sanders and A. Brown both will be active on game day this week? I think their speed and big-play ability is very much needed on this offense and in special teams. Also, is Eason isn't ready to go and with an already gimpy Keisel, do you think the team could activate DL Sunny Harris? And if Clark has lost a step, should he start to split time with Will Allen? Just curious. Did anyone ask Tomlin this week if the play of J. Scott and Chris K were both "above the line?" For all the angst the Steelers rec'd when they signed Flozell Adams, I think he's had a better year at RT this year than Willie Colon has ever had as a Steeler. Thoughts?
I hope Sanders and Brown both play and we work some quick slants and WR screens early to keep some of the heat off of Ben and the Oline.
