NFLDraftScout.com sent me its pre-combine top 250 players.
Space does not permit me to list the entire thing, but I did take a close look at the top 50, which would roughly be the top two tiers of players.
Each draft has its 10 to 15 studs and then you can usually throw a blanket over the next 35 to 40 picks – beauty is in the eye of the beholder:
In that 25 to 40 range, you're looking at 25. Derek Sherrod, the offensive tackle from Missssippi State; 27. Jimmy Smith, CB, Colorado; 29. Brandon Harris, CB, Miami; 30. Cameron Heyward, DE, Ohio State; 31. Mike Pouncey, G, Florida; 33. Aaron Williams, CB, Texas; 34. Danny Watkins, G, Baylor; 36. Stephen Paea, DT, Oregon State
Obviously, things can change depending on how a guy works out, but there's some solid football players at need positions for the Steelers. I don't think Paea would fit in the Steelers' scheme as a nose tackle, but he's quick enough to play end - ala. Kemo von Oelhoffen.
© Bogdog always sends me listings of some odds they have on their site. One that piqued my interest was one that asked who would run the fastest 40, Cam Newton or Josh Portis?
Newton was -130, while Portis was even money.
For those of you who don't know, Portis spent the past two seasons at California University of Pennsylvania after originally being recuited by Florida, where he was a backup to Tim Tebow. Newton was also at Florida at the time.
He also spent time at Maryland before transferring to Cal.

ReplyDeleteRACIST!!
?
ReplyDeleteDale has a picture of a white guy. That means he's racist. DALE'S RACIST FOR SHOWING A PICTURE OF A WHITE GUY!!!
ReplyDeleteI'd say chances are good the Steelers' first round pick is on your list. I don't see them taking Danny Watkins, though, too damn old!
ReplyDeleteI agree about Watkins. They tend to like to take underclassmen, not guys who are 27.
ReplyDeleteWhy........ cause he's black? RACIST!!!
ReplyDeleteI guess I'm missing the attempted joke.
ReplyDeleteAnyways - even if Watkins is 27, his football age is much less because he hasn't played the game for long. His body isn't worn down from years of contact, so that has to be taken into account.
Athleticism for guards tends to matter a bit less as well. Hell, if Kemo can be utilized as a pulling guard, Watkins can as well.
I don't care about football age stuff. Bottom line is that he's 27 and will turn 28 during the next season. If he gets a five-year deal as a rookie, which is pretty much the norm, what do you give him when that is up? He'll be 32 going on 33.
ReplyDeleteNot to mention, he's from Canada. I am racist against Canadians.
ReplyDeletethats not even racism, thats just smart thinking
ReplyDeleteI am racist against d-bags from Phila.
ReplyDeleteI'm STILL just sooo happy that the dirt bag Stillers lost the Super Bowl.
ReplyDelete"We" and "us" just could not play as good a game as you talked.
Love it.

ReplyDeleteDale,
ReplyDeleteCan you give me your thoughts on the following mock draft?
1. Derek Sherrod OT Miss. St.
2. Ras I Dowling CB UVA
3. Sione Fua NT Stan.
4. Richard Sherman S/CB Stan.
5. Jah Reid G/OT UCF
I kinda like it, but I wonder about Fua. I know we need to draft a Hampton replacement sometime, but if Hoke is coming back this makes the position battle even for a draft pick pretty tough as Hoke knows the D, Fua doesn't.
I probably put Sherman at S, not CB and I probably put Reid at G. Which tackle the #1 goes to I have no idea.
Alright, Dale is trying to put together a respectable blog here. No one wants to come and read crap from people who have too much time on their hands. If you don't like the Steelers, or Dale, or this blog, refrain from coming to the website. You are wasting your own time on here....I'm sure you have something better to be doing.
ReplyDeleteIf Dale wants a respectable blog, he shouldnt be stating hes a racist against Canadians. (Or anyone else) Thats just bush.
ReplyDeletelol. how about just staying on topic
ReplyDeleteWell then, as a Canadian, I would say that Dale is forgiven. Now can we talk football?
ReplyDelete"Blame Canada, Blame Canada, It's not a real country anyway!"
ReplyDeleteMy step Mom's from New Brunswick so I love referring to Canada as "America Jr". when around her.
Sherrod reminds me of a Marvel Smith-type player. He has a chance to be a decent starter for a long time, but I don't think he'll be great.
ReplyDeleteI like Fua. Don't know if he'll last until the end of the third.
I keep seeing people putting Dowling on lists for the Steelers. I'm not too impressed with him.
