There have been a lot of great – and some not so great – sports movies made over the years.
My personal favorite remains Slapshot – in part because I went to college in Johnstown where it was made – but Caddyshack, Major League and many other great ones are out there.
What's your favorite?
Patrick does Philadelphia!
ReplyDeleteMajor League
ReplyDeleteProbably Hoosiers. Also, Breaking Away.
ReplyDeleteHoosiers, and I'm not even a basketball guy.
ReplyDeleteHorsefeathers
ReplyDeleteI tend to like the football comedies... Necessary Roughness, The Replacements, and Little Giants.
ReplyDeleteSlapshot and Caddyshack are great and it may be all of the quotable lines that make them so great. One movie that isn't a sports movie, but has a hilarious football scene is MASH.
ReplyDeleteSlapshot, Caddyshack and Hoosiers would probably be my top three... Actually, Bull Durham would have to be in there... Youngblood was pretty good too... Man, it's hard to pick a 'favorite'.
ReplyDeleteAll time favorite.. Remember the Titans!
ReplyDeleteZeke
i played baseball in college so "The Natural" is a childhood favorite.
ReplyDeletehowever, Bull Durham and Slapshot have to be two the best ever.
a not-so-well-known and very good baseball movie is "For Love of the Game."
I have a small one in Pop Warner right now, so Rudy is a family favorite. Remember the Titans is definitely near the top.
ReplyDeleteHoosiers!
ReplyDeleteRocky IV, obviously.
ReplyDeletedo documentaries count? When We Were Kings was pretty fantastic. I'll toss in for The Natural too. Eight Men Out was entertaining and had a heck of a cast.
ReplyDeleteAll time -- "The Natural"
ReplyDeleteFav right now -- "Cinderella Man"
Two words.... Raging Bull, De Niro is the man.
ReplyDeleteThe Hustler, The Bad News Bears, A League of Their Own, Tin Cup, Field of Dreams
ReplyDeleteHere's a classic...
ReplyDelete"The Champ" with a young Ricky Schroeder (sp?)
Kingpin!
ReplyDeletethe first anonymous post was really hilarious. soaking with creativity
ReplyDeletedale you still let the kids sit at the adults table?
Cinderella Man, The Fighter, Friday Night Lights
ReplyDeleteThe Bird Cage
ReplyDeleteI second Raging Bull.
ReplyDeleteScorsese, De Niro, Presci
People who say Rocky is better are stupid.
I have to go with The Natural. It had everything.
ReplyDelete"Miracle" with the Herb Brooks speech at the end, tonight is our night!
ReplyDeleteAlso, "Any Given Sunday" with Al Pacino giving his football game of inches speech.
Lot of great movies there guys. Keep em coming.
ReplyDeleteblue chips, he got game, and friday night lights
ReplyDeleteVision Quest
ReplyDeletelittle giants :-)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite movie growing up was Bloodsport, and since we're on martial arts tournament movies lets not forget Enter the Dragon
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is the Steelers super bowl highlight films.
ReplyDeleteThe Scout. Featuring the legendary Steve Nebraska who could pitch over 100 mph, and was a great switch hitter.
ReplyDeleteEight Men Out
ReplyDeleteHellooooo!!!!! This is Steeler Country! How about Fighting Back, the Rocky Bleier Story with Robert Urich playing Bleier?
ReplyDeleteOkay, that was a home team pick so I'll go with one that probably isn't on anyone's radar... Running Brave, the story of Billy Mills the American Indian that came from obscurity, to win the 10,000 meter long distance foot race in the Tokyo Olympics.
Brian's Song
ReplyDeleteThe Big Lebowski!
ReplyDelete"F@ck it Dude, let's go bowling!"
Dale,
ReplyDeleteAny chance the Steelers try to sign Reggie Bush?
Why would they? They drafted someone capable of playing 3rd down back, which is all Bush is good at, and have Moore in case the lockout doesn't give Batch time to learn the playbook
ReplyDeleteNo way it'll ever happen
btw, I choose Rudy
My favorite comedy is Dale Lolley's life. lol, what a joke.
ReplyDeleteRequiem of a Heavyweight.
