Redman to get more work

Isaac Redman said he's been told by running backs coach Kirby Wilson that the Steelers are kicking around the idea of giving him a series each in the first and second half to spell Rashard Mendenhall.

Redman ran hard through the preseason and offers a little bit of a bull in a China shop style. He deserves some more carries.

Read more about it in my story in Friday's Observer-Reporter.

© Jerricho Cotchery missed practice again today and is looking questionable to play against the Ravens - not that he would have seen much playing time anyway.

  1. I like the idea of Redman getting 160'ish touches this year. It probably won't happen, but I think it would help Mendenhall long term.

Good, there's no reason for Mendenhall to be tackled 350 times this year unless there is no other option. Also, I like Mendenhall as the third-down back more often if he's getting spelled by Redman for carries. But they'll probably stick with Moore most of the time, who's decent so whatever.

  3. The way they do it is this - as explained to me by Redman. He gets the third and 7s to 10. That's when the defense is most likely to blitz. Moore gets thirds and above 10 and most everything under that to third and one or less.

Dale, any idea on how the goal-line snaps are going to be distributed this season amongst the RB's? Does Mendenhall get them all or will Redman get some redzone snaps as well?

  5. I would assume nothing would change with that. Mendenhall was pretty good at getting into the end zone in 2011.

Redman getting 160 touches? I just can't see it. Mendenhall is going to get almost all of the carries.

What are your thoughts on Hines Ward?

^Saw here that he isn't supposed to have a big year.

On another note, I'd like to see what Cotchery can do if healthy.

Redman might break 100 carries if he can be effective. It's upto him to perform like we know he can. 5-7 carries a game would put him around 100 carries on the season though and I feel that's realistic.

interesting game last night with the kickoffs. the saints had a kickoff specialist who booted the ball 7 times.

    5 touchbacks
1 TD (should have been a touchback and was a fluke return imo)
1 regular return when he kicked the ball 3 yards deep into the endzone.

excluding the TD return, which again i think was a fluke given he brought the ball out from the back of the endzone, the packer's average starting position after kickoffs was 20.67 yard line.

average starting position for the saints after kickoffs was the 25.5 yard line.

i will be very interested to see how this unfolds in the steeler/ravens game considering cundiff will likely get a TB everytime he kicksoff.

A lot of people complain that the Steelers pass defense will get exploited. But based on the Saints-Packers game, the Steelers have a lot of company in that department.

  12. redman should have gotten more carries last year, same as brown should have been the lone punt returner.
i think both happen this year.

ot-plex interview released-what a steaming pile of dung he is.
