Tuesday with Tomlin

Mike Tomlin confirmed today that right tackle Willie Colon suffered a torn triceps muscle in Sunday's loss at Baltimore. Surgery was performed today.

Tomlin said rookie Marcus Gilbert, a second round pick out of Florida, will get the first chance to replace Colon at right tackle Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks.

The move actually makes the most sense.

The Steelers think Gilbert is their left tackle of the future. He played well enough in the preseason that they were comfortable with him as one of the seven players active on game day against the Ravens.

Why not put him in there and see if he runs with it?

The Steelers placed Colon on injured reserve and signed veteran Jamon Meredith.

Meredith, a 2009 fifth round draft pick of Buffalo, has spent time with the Bills, Giants, Packers and Lions. He has started four NFL games.

© Tomlin said linebacker James Harrison, who left Sunday's game with a knee injury, is OK.

There are a lot of rookies starting on OLs of contending teams this year. Pouncey worked out pretty well last season, so might as well go with Gilbert.
Let's face it, you don't start for 4 yrs at FL if you're chopped liver.

This is how we can find out if he's a player or not. Trial by fire, love it.

Let's hope he is the answer at one of the tackle spots. Then maybe we can get the other 3 fixed.

Steelers signed Jamon Williams as OT depth. He was drafted by Buff, so probably knows/known by Coach Koogs.

  8. If we're not resigning Flozell, Gilbert has to be the starter.

If we trot Trai Essex out there, I will lose my s***.

The good news is The Cryhawks were 1 of 2 teams along with the Bucs that did not register a Sack this weekend.

Guaranteed...the Seahawks sack Ben a minimum 5 times this game.

  10. Dale did the steelers consider moving Turner up off the Practice SQ.

  11. I watched Rookie Tackle Nate Solder hold his own for New England against Miami's Cameron Wake yesterday so who knows, maybe Gilbert will take advantage of his opportunity.

We'd be talking SB right now if we did what the Ravens did and signed probowl players that were cut because of their salary like McKinnie and Gurode. Too bad we are cheap and stupid

  13. ^ the steelers are "cheap and stupid" wow

poor depth on the o-line was going to bite them sooner or later this season, didn't know it was going to be this soon.
good deal to start the rookie. now make the switch for the rest of this season- pouncy to rg, legs to center. legs is much better at center than rg.

They should let Gilbert play left tackle. J Scott sucks and will get hurt soon anyways. I agree about switching Legs/Pouncey. Also Kemo is garbage and will get Big Ben killed. Best case scenario right now:

LT - Gilbert, LG - anyone but Kemo, C - Legursky, RG - Pouncey, RT - Scott, Essex or a turd

Personally, I have never seen Gilbert as a LT at the next level. My belief has always been RT for him. In fact, I thought we drafted him just in case Colon walked away this offseason. So how do I feel about our line? Put Gilbert at RT and hope he does well. Swap Legs and Kemo giving Legs just one more shot at being a starter. Live with your line for the year, then look to get a LT with your first pick, even if it means you move up at the draft. Next year Colon goes to LG.

For now: Scott (maybe look at Starks at some point) Legs (go to Foster, Essex, of C. Scott if he faulters) Pouncey, Kemo, Gilbert.

    Next year:
    Drafted LT/Colon/Pouncey/Kemo/Gilbert

they will not move pouncey out of center.

the ravens' defensive game plan was outstanding. they confused our QB and o-line throughout the game.

as much as the players underperformed, the steelers were thouroughly outcoached as well. it happens. i just wish tomlin would say it. cowher had no problem admitting he blew it from time to time. i admire that in a coach.

Dale, reportedly Balt illegally cut blocked Casey Hampton a lot during the game. Do you think the Steelers will send some tape of it to the league for future reference?

They should! But they should also stop complaining to the media about it. Leave that whining to the low level teams in the league

after rewatching the game it surprised me how obvious it was, and I have to wonder why no one complained during the game

but once again, our players commenting on it to the media is PATHETIC

No one "complained" to the media. Apparently Timmons was asked about it during an interview. Farrior was also asked and confirmed it. Then Hampton did also.

Personally, I hope in the rematch, Tomlin and LeBeau allow Hampton to bull rush Birk a few times.

It's the steelers! the refs will know he's about to do it before he even knows it. Probably would eject hampton then
