The Steelers on Saturday placed punter Daniel Sepulveda on IR, replacing him with Jeremy Kapinos.
Sepulveda's name surprisingly came up on the injury list Friday as he was listed as questionbale with a knee injury to his plant leg.
The injury is to the same knee that cost him the final four games of the 2010 season and marks the third time in his career that he will end the season on IR.
Sepulveda was having his best season in 2011, averaging 46.1 yards per punt.
Kapinos replaced Sepulveda for the final four games and in the postseason in 2010, averaging 41.9 yards per kick.
Wondering who will be the first to begin the I-told-you-so's... I thought with proper rehab, those injuries are supposed to get stronger, or something like that. Is the Sepulveda experiment over?
ReplyDeleteOver the summer there was a story that this knee bends back farther than normal and that the first two surgeries tightened the ACL too much and didn't allow for the natural way the knee joint bent. The 3rd surgery didn't make the ACL as tight and that supposedly solved the problem. I guess it didn't.

ReplyDeleteyou focus on the Steelers, while I mainly focus on the 49ers.
The last 2 times Sepulveda's season was cut short with an IR stint, the Steelers appeared in the Super Bowl. If that's what it takes...
ReplyDeleteThough, if we make the SB this year, how awful for him to be drafted to the Steelers, play for 5 season in which the Steelers appear in 3 SB's and he never plays in one. Tragic for him.
He should write a book about dealing with disappointment.
Daniel, we hardly knew ye.
ReplyDeleteTragic but I guess some things aren't meant to be. At least we have a reliable if not spectacular replacement.

ReplyDeletetrue, Kapinos acquitted himself quite nicely in the playoffs.
remember Ernster in 08? Worst punter I've ever seen.
Did he cause a few turnovers for us because his kicks were so short? I remember we had one punter whose kicks would sometimes hit the opposing return blockers in the back...
ReplyDeleteMaury Buford was the main reason the '85 Bears won the Super Bowl.
ReplyDeleteThis is a torn meniscus, not the ACL. Different injury.
