Wednesday news and notes

It appears the Steelers will get linebacker LaMarr Woodley back this weekend to face the Cincinnati Bengals.

Woodley was a full participant in practice Wednesday and looked good moving around.

His return would help bolster a defense that has recorded just 24 sacks this season. Woodley and James Harrison, who have played just three full games together this season due to injuries, have recorded 14 of those 24 sacks.

© Emmanuel Sanders said today that he has been told he will continue to return kickoffs this week and he guaranteed that he will do a better job of it than he did last week at Kansas City.

I also spoke to Antonio Brown, who had been handling all of those duties, about it and he said he takes way more of a beating returning kicks than he does punts.

Remember, Sanders was the team's primary kick returner last season and averaged 25.1 yards per return.

© Troy Polamalu and Maurkice Pouncey did not practice today, but both are expected to be ready to play against the Bengals.

  1. It really is senseless to have your most targeted WR returning punts and kicks. You're just asking for it. Although was and has been huge for me in my return yd FF league. 3rd ranked WR in all of football.

I like this move. Sanders is just as fast.

Glad to have Woodley and Harrison on the field together. I think andy dalton may have a little tougher time and playing away.

  3. I think the WR are going to step it up Sunday @ home. It also be great having both bookend linebackers. This will be a statement game for the Offense.

Geez. I was hoping that Tomlin would look outside when the day comes. Fichtner is the Maytag Repairman of football. Problem is the $100m washing machine thinks it needs no fine tuning/adjustment. Roethlisberger resents QB coaching. Has said so many times. So what exactly does Fichtner do besides impersonate Steely McBeam on the sideline during games?

I recall what appeared to be Butler calling the D in one of the preseason games. Seems a safe assumption he's taking over for LeBeau. Mitchell said he's retiring when Aaron Smith does. Does that mean this is his last year? Guessing this is LeBeau's last too.

I just spoke with Antonio Brown and he told me that he takes more of a beating catching passes across the middle of the field than he does returning kicks.

Antonio Brown will stay at a Holiday Inn on Saturday night and should be able to return kicks offs on Sunday.

maybe mendy shouldn't catch passes out of the backfield. it's too dangerous with a LB coming in low on his legs. his primary job is to rush the ball.

  13. Look, it's not like Brown isn't going to return any kickoffs. Sanders is just going to get some too.

Sanders is also a pretty valuable WR, probably shouldn't risk him either.

I wonder if Najeh "The Dumptruck" Davenport is still available to sign specifically for kick off returns. Whoever does it is certainly destined for the IR.
