The Steelers have Landry Jones, Derek Moye, Le'Veon Bell, Cortez Allen, Isaiah Green, Cody Wallace and Hebron Fangupo inactive for tonight's game.
Felix Jones will get the start at running back. Jarvis Jones will start at OLB. I would also expect the offense to be announced this week so that Heath Miller can be announced as the starting tight end.
No changes in the starting lineup for the Bears.

ReplyDeleteTomlin was a defensive coordinator for one year before becoming the Steelers head coach. Obama was a senator for one year before becoming the president. Do you think the lack of experience has hurt these gentlemen in the performance of their jobs?

ReplyDeleteI don't advocate Tomlin is a great coach, never have. But what I see on that field is lack of execution and inferior talent. I put more of the responsibility there on the gm, though the coach is obviously part of that.
ReplyDeleteon a side note: I don't want to be the fan making excuses that are silly, but the ball is really not bouncing the Steelers' way this year. Seriously, every time there is a fumble/punt/tipped pass it goes the complete opposite we need it.

ReplyDeleteI really hope someday the Steelers change up from that soft zone coverage. You just can't let that pass happen on 3rd and 12. I am just so tired of seeing the DBs line up 10 yds away from the receivers, then back pedal giving no resistance at all to the receivers.

ReplyDeleteThey had an opportunity last year when Arians took over the Cards. The Cards didn't have a QB and given the relationship Ben had with Arians, the Steelers could have walked away with a bevy of draft picks. Granted, if we would have done that trade, the Steelers would have been without a QB and probably have been 0-3 at this point in the season.
NBC put up a graphic of the starts of all the OL. Incl Velasco and Foster, it's about 100 starts combined. They are the most inexperienced unit in the NFL. For OL, they need to play to get better and I thought they did pass and run block better. Week to week improvement is the watchword.
ReplyDeleteA bigger problem is that defenses are forcing BR to be a pocket passer and that's not where he excels. When he's pressured, his instinct is to run back and to the sides, not step up into the pocket. The times he did step up, it looked like he really had to think about it and force himself to do it.
Most OL are taught to drive their defender back and around, but with BR, sometimes that results in a collision because he's trying to scramble back and around too. This isn't a new issue, but until BR to adapts to being more of a pocket passer, it'll keep being a problem.
As disappointing as being winless is, it should give the coaches leeway to play the young guys a lot more and not worry about guys who are in their final contract year and not likely to be re-signed, like Sanders for ex.
I don't know. It's Arians' fault, it's Haley's fault, it's the O-line's fault, etc., etc. But my take is --
ReplyDeleteThe offense is consistently mediocre at best because Ben's greatest strength as a QB is also his greatest weakness & makes it impossible to have an efficient offense.
Also he's taken 150 hits a year (my estimate of 50 sacks + 100 hits) for ten years now & had a number of injuries even though he's missed relatively few games because of them.
Just asking, is he done / does he deserve another franchise QB contract from a purely business standpoint?
Yes, you'd have to see how the rest of the year goes but he looks awful. Even taking into account the O-line's awfulness.
Nice blocking by Dwyer. Troy looked cool on the extra point block. Good special teams. Ben looked liked Good Ben for about 2/3 of the game.
Personally, I've always felt BR is the kind of qb, who, when he starts to decline, will have a rapid one. He won't age well because of the way he plays.
ReplyDeleteIt may be time to begin asking if BR is in the Philip Rivers stage of his career. Which is ironic given that Rivers is playing well and has only 1 turnover this season.
