The Steelers are 1-point underdogs Sunday in their game against the Jets, but the game opened Monday with Pittsburgh as 2-point favorites. It swung the other way after the Jets beat Atlanta, with New York then being favored by 2.
But the money has started heading back in Pittsburgh's direction.
The reason? There are several.
First, the Steelers are 15-2 against rookie quarterbacks with Dick LeBeau as defensive coordinator. That's a pretty serious trend.
Also, the Jets will be without not only Santonio Holmes, but Kellen Winslow as well. Holmes has a hamstring injury, while Winslow was suspended by the NFL for PED use Friday. Those two have combined for three of New York's seven touchdown passes and Winslow was the team's leading receiver.
Finally, cornerback Antonio Rodgers-Cromartie is questionable to play after hyperextending his knee in practice this week. He hadn't been playing well, but he's the best the Jets have.
The Steelers should have an easy time moving the ball in the air, especially if the Jets try to go zero coverage as they did last week against Atlanta.
Take Pittsburgh to win this one, 24-17
Who are the 2? Does Tebow count? Weeden last year. Beat RGIII, squeaked by Palko a couple few years ago. I dunno, the rose is off that bloom, sad to say.
ReplyDeleteTebow was a second-year player when he beat them.
ReplyDeletePalko wasn't a rookie, either.
Weedon last year and Troy Smith in 2007. That's hardly the bloom being off that rose.
I would also add that the Jets are on a short week and the Steelers are coming back healthy and rested from a bye.
ReplyDeleteFINGERS CROSSED
ReplyDeleteAnd Smith was in the regular season finale of '07 vs. the Ravens after the Steelers had already clinched the AFC North title + were locked into their playoff seed and rested some of the starters. Weeden was in the 8 turnover game vs. the Browns.
ReplyDeleteYeah and it's not like it's Lebeau's fault the offense turned the ball over 6 times. wtf
ReplyDeleteYou have picked the Steelers every week! There is no way they win if you picked them to do so. Jets D will eat the Steelers offensive offense alive.
ReplyDeletethere are a lot of reasons for the Steelers to win this one, but they never seem to bring any of those hopes to a realization.
ReplyDeleteI have a feeling you're going to see a great first time consuming TD drive from the Steelers, like they had going in the first half of last year, and then its going to get slow and ugly again. If they don't turn the ball over,t hey probably win.
I'll go 20-13 Steelers.
If they manage not to be down one or two touchdowns before the 2nd quarter(like every game this season, somehow) I like their chances.
ReplyDeleteDale I appreciate your optimism, but I’m going to go the other way. With Mangold, Ferguson and Colon, the Jets offensive line will manhandle the Steelers D. In fact, on one play, Colon will pancake one of the linebackers and proceed to hump him on the ground. Paternity tests will be taken after the game.
ReplyDeleteOn the other side of the ball, the Jets D will send Ben the jelly of the month club, the gift that keeps giving all year round. Ben thinks that’s swell and in turn, is torn between giving the Jets D a pic six or laying one on the carpet. In any case, the Jets over the Steelers 24-16.
Considering the jets' injuries, I give the steelers a slight edge. But, they have yet to prove they can go out and do what it takes to win. The jets have though. Changed my own mind. I see the jets winning by 3.
ReplyDeleteHate to say it, but I'm rooting for them to lose all of their games EXCEPT Ravens (beat those %^$!'s twice), Bengals (once, obviously), Browns (once is fine), and Patriots. I want to see them get (very) high draft picks next year, and hope they start righting the course after spending so much money on aging vets over the years, along with some horrible drafts (the Mendenhall, Sweed, etc one ended up taking the cake).
ReplyDeleteNo. Haven't picked on them in every week. Didn't pick them against the Bengals.
