With Tom Brady backing out of the Pro Bowl due to injury, that left Ben Roethlisberger next in line to go.
He, too, turned it down thanks to a sore shoulder that developed late in the season.
That means Matt Schaub will be heading to Miami.
Roethlisberger appeared to have problems with his throwing shoulder during the Steelers’ season-ending game at Miami on Jan. 3. Coach Mike Tomlin later said he doesn’t think Roethlisberger will require any medical procedures to correct the problem.
I thought BR's throws were losing steam toward the end of the season so I am not surprised to read this.
ReplyDeleteThat's just another reason the develop a better running game next year and beyond.
Drama queen.
ReplyDeleteHey, it could be an excuse. A lot of guys are backing out of this one. The free trip to Miami to be bombarded with questions from media that will actually be there as opposed to Hawaii, which is beautiful and draws no media.
ReplyDeleteBut yes, he was struggling with some throws late in the season - before the Miami game.
Sore shoulder, headaches, broken toes, broken ribs, tingling hands, 104 degree fever...
ReplyDeletegoing off of what another poster said, when you need to throw for 504 yards in order to ensure a last second win, I'm not suprised your shoulder bothers you a little by the end of the season.
ReplyDeleteThe sad part is, if they were playing Sunday, they would probably still throw 40 times, shoulder issues or not.
But lets face it - Ben is a bit of a drama queen. He plays up his injuries, however big or small. Doesn't make him any less of a player.
I agree with Dale. Why would he want to go to Miami to face the media throng and drama that is sure to follow him. It sounds like the sore shoulder was a convenient excuse.
ReplyDeleteThat said, I think the drama queen label is not entirely unfair. Ben has demonstrated that he's a tough guy when it comes to playing but he can sometimes overdo it with his self aggrandizing injury reports.
So when does Ward call Ben out for missing the Pro Bowl?
ReplyDeleteIIRC, BR did suffer an AC joint sprain earlier this season. I'd guess his arm has been bothering him all year. It just makes one wonder why the QB coach and OC didn't try and cut down the number of passes. IMHO, that they didn't shows how much both enabled BR to do whatever he wanted.
ReplyDeletejust another reason why our OC is a complete jack*ss.
ReplyDeletePatrick is a bigger drama queen than Ben
ReplyDeleteDrama queen.
ReplyDeletePatrick how is Big Ben a drama queen. He played the rest of the Miami game with that hurt arm. He's played with broken ribs and he's played with a concussion. Anonymouse is right you are a drama queen. IDIOT
ReplyDeleteHey Patrick, Collin's absolutely right. Remember how Ben played through that whole super bowl with a broken pinkie toe. I mean, seriously, could you have done that....
ReplyDeleteThat's why I thought!
I hate the spell checking on my iPhone...
ReplyDeleteI meant to write: "That's WHAT I thought!"
you guys have to be kidding me. Does anyone remember the toe fiasco after his rookie season?
ReplyDeleteEvery time he gets a little nick on him, he is on the sideline wincing. And then mentions it after the game.
And your comment about the concussion is retarded. Playing with a concussion is not tough, thats stupid.
You are the biggest homers I've ever encountered.
It's true. I am a douchebag.

ReplyDeleteHey Patrick if your saying Big Ben isn't tough I bet your also saying that Jay Cutler is tough
ReplyDeletehaha, Collin I know you think you are genius and all, but dude, being a drama queen can also give a false impression of being "tough".
ReplyDeleteSure he plays through injuries, but everytime he does, he sure does make us aware of it doesn't he? No matter how big or small.
Make us aware of what Patrick?
ReplyDeleteyou're kidding right? or are you stupid?
ReplyDeleteI am still a douchebag.
