The free agency period began at midnight and unlike previous years, there were no big opening salvos.
Teams are playing things pretty close to the vest at this point as they feel things out in the uncapped year.
The Steelers are, of course, one of the teams who have been silent. But that's par for the course for them as they usually sit out the opening week or so before scouring the remains to pick up a bargain or two.
They have reportedly contacted the agent for free agent Arnaz Battle and have set up a visit with the former Notre Dame and San Francisco 49ers receiver.
Battle is a mutli-purpose threat - ala. Hines Ward and Atwaan Randle El - and could fit as a slot receiver, something the team could be in the market for given that Mike Wallace, Santonio Holmes and Limas Sweed are outside guys.
Battle could also be insurance for Sweed, who was placed on IR at the end of the season with a yet-undisclosed non-medical problem.
As of this writing there have no reports of any of the Steelers' free agents making or setting up visits anywhere.
Dale Dawg,
ReplyDeleteYou think Clark gets much attention? I think he is good as gone!
Peach Out,
Skinley!
I read that the Vikings are interested in Clark... Not that that means much.
ReplyDeleteDale, whats the news on Roethlisberger down in Ga?
ReplyDeleteClark will get some looks, but free safeties really aren't a priority.
ReplyDeleteAs for the Roethlisberger accusations - again - they don't surprise me. He seems to be about as smart as a log when it comes to women. As for the charges themselves, like most everyone else, I'm just learning about them.
he needs to watch where he puts his log
ReplyDeleteThe Ben went down to Georgia,!!!All THE WOMAN BETTER BEWARE!
ReplyDeleteI hope he didn't do it. The court of public opinion is going to be very very harsh on Ben.This is really bad for everbody involved.
ReplyDeleteif i had to bet everything i have, i'd say he did it.
ReplyDeleteOnce was enough, twice is just stupid. Whether or not hes guilty of anything, and hopefully he isn't, it seems pretty clear Ben was banging a 20 year old in the bathroom.
ReplyDeleteIts f'n stupid on his part. When is he going to learn his status comes with burdens and doing this stuff is going to bite him? Dumb, dumb, dumb and another big distraction.
Hey Dale, I know it's a big secret about Sweed's "illnes". I just wonder if its a psychological illness (a.k.a. depression) or a physical illness. Any thoughts?
ReplyDeleteI really had high hopes for the kid and he seems like a genuinely nice guy but as a football player this is my last year of rooting for him to become a player.
Big Ben is making Jeff Reed look like a saint.
ReplyDeleteI never liked Ben anyways, the guy cares more about numbers than the team. He is a good players though.
ReplyDeleteThat said I hope he is innocent but nothing would surprise me and I hope justice is done when the truth is known.
Ben is the Pgh Steelers version of Tiger Woods.
ReplyDeletePerhaps we can re-name him Big Tiger!
First, there's a difference between sexual assault and rape. Sexual assault could have been Ben going into the bathroom with here and touching her in a way she considered inappropriate. Until we know the full details of the case, I'm not going make a judgment one way or another.
ReplyDeleteAs for my lack of surprise about the whole thing, that stems more from his apparent lack of control when it comes to putting himself in this kind of situation.
I'm not saying the guy can't be a normal 28-year-old. He should be able to go out with his buddies like anyone else. But putting himself into a situation where there can be a he-said, she-said instance, isn't very bright.
We should give Kirk Morrison (RFA) an offer sheet. It isn't like we need to stay ready for a quick move and most other teams wait on the restricted guys which leaves a bit of an opening. We might as well take advantage of our "patient approach"
ReplyDelete"But putting himself into a situation where there can be a he-said, she-said instance, isn't very bright."
ReplyDeleteIt shows weak leadership as well.
Boys don't lead men.
Punks even less so
Sorry Dale but sexual assault is rape under the model penal code. (he said penal...hh.hh.hh)
ReplyDeletehe could have slapped her on the arse - thats sexual assault, but it's not rape. There's a difference and Dale's right to point it out
ReplyDeleteWhere was Willie Colon when this was going on? Once again he left his quarterback exposed!
