Steelers place Sweed on reserve/injured list

The Steelers on Tuesday placed wide receiver Limas Sweed on the reserve/injured list, meaning the third-year player will miss the entire 2010 season.

Sweed, a 2008 second-round draft pick, suffered an Achilles tendon injury at the team's mini-camp May 2.

The Steelers replaced Sweed on their offseason roster by signing first-year wide receiver Isaiah Williams. Williams signed with the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted rookie in 2009, but was released prior to the regular season.

Sigh...

So, IF he makes a full recovery, what are the chances that the team gives him a chance to compete in 2011?

He'll get a shot. A lot depends on what happens with the team this season. If the two rookies show they can play, it may make him expendable. But I doubt they'll give up for him.

How sad. I remember his rookie year and how he seemed like a genuinely nice kid. He took the time to learn a little about the Steelers history and he seemed poised to make an impact. I guess sometimes life is just that way, but if he can come back next season and turn it around (I know we've said that before) then it will be quite a story.

Good luck kid.

Hopefully, if he has his head on straight, like everyone seems to say he has, he has taken advantage of this financial head start. He has made a lot of money already, lets hope he has taken advantage of his position even if he cannot make it back on the football field.
