Draft Day blog thread/Day 1

All is quiet here at the Steelers headquarters. Not much going on, though the building is a little more on lockdown than usual.

I haven't changed my thinking a whole lot in regard to how the Steelers will handle this draft. The preference for me is still that they take an offensive lineman - read, guard - in the first round and move on from there.

But I still get the feeling that Dont'a Hightower will be the pick if he is there.

I don't think they will take Dontari Poe. Too much of a question mark for a first-round pick. That would be out of character for Kevin Colbert.

If Luke Kuechly is available in the range of pick 18, they should seriously consider making the move up.

@ The Browns have traded their fourth, fifth and seventh picks to move up one spot in the first round.

Cleveland will be Cleveland.

@ I'm hearing that Andrew Sweat of Ohio State and Trinity High School here in Washington is on the Steelers radar in the seventh round.

ILB for the Buckeyes. Solid special teams player. Good citizen.

@ The Steelers re-signed quarterback Byron Leftwich to a one-year deal. That means quarterback is probably off the board for them in this draft. They now have five.

Dale,

If they are going to take Zeitler or Silatolu in the 1st round, then it needs to be after a trade down. I still think the Steelers will give serious consideration to Nick Perry if he is there. Can't wait to begin separating this fact from fiction draft talk.

Why are the browns so dumb ?

Anyway decastro is to guy to trade up for. Here's hoping...

Mike Adams is our pick IMO.

go get decastro now

San Diego's gonna take him.

yeh but I can hope. I thought Cincy might. I don't know what the incentive for someone to trade down would be either - no one has gotten much in a trade besides STL

Wow. No way he gets past Cincy a 2nd time. And it doesn't look like we were able to work out a trade. Seems like an opportunity missed. Only 4 spots to jump up to 20. What would that have cost us?

GET DECASTRO

I'm a Stanford grad. Could not be happier right now. I could hug Kevin Colbert. No way I would have been able to hold out like that.

Every year someone falls to us because we are just patient and let it play out. Here is a guy who was in the top 12 of almost every mock I read. We get him at 24.

what a pick, can't believe CIN traded down like they did. And Cleveland taking Weeden was just too funny.

I felt like I did when Ben was falling to the Steelers, couldn't believe no one was taking him.

Wow, the guy they probably wanted most. DeCastro looks like the second coming of Alan Faneca.

Kelvin Colbert, U deserve a raise! What a great start 2 a very important draft.

Excellent. And the ravens didn't get their guy so they traded down...even better!

On one of the football message boards I go to all Bengals fans are pissed that they passed not only passed on DeCastro but we got him. LoL

A+++ once again the steelers show why they are THE gold standard in the NFL. Nothing crazy, not a sign of panic, just controlled patience and once again a GREAT pick!!
