Steelers interview Munchak

Mike Munchak became the second person to interview for the Steelers' vacant offensive line coach job on Friday.

Munchak, who was fired at the end of the season after three years as head coach of the Tennessee Titans, met with Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin and offensive coordinator Todd Haley on Friday.

The former Penn State star and Pro Football Hall of Fame member was a nine-time Pro Bowl offensive lineman with the Houston Oilers and 10-time All-Pro selection (try to make sense of that).

He joined the Oilers as a coach after his retirement in 1993 and stuck with the team through its move to Tennessee.

The only other candidate to interview for the position, which was vacated when Jack Bicknell Jr. was fired at the conclusion of the regular season, has been assistant offensive line coach Sean Sarrett.

@ The Steelers are considering lowering the prices of their preseason game tickets.

No decision has been made as of yet in regards to that move, but if it happens, you might also expect a slight increase in regular season game ticket prices.

The Steelers would be extremely fortunate to get someone of Munchak’s caliber to coach the OL. Having someone who spent time in the trenches then was able to teach that experience is invaluable. The Titans had a number of 1000 yard rushers like Eddie George, Chris Johnson but also guys not as talented like Travis Henry and Lendale White. As everyone in Steeler nation knows, it all starts up front. Don’t let him leave town without signing him Art. On a funny side note, I believe he also interviewed for the Brown’s head coach opening. What would you rather be, the head coach of the mistake by the lake or an assistant on a team that has super bowl potential each year?

I don't know Munchak's background as a co-ordinator, but is this a case of bringing in someone that can step up if they decide to go a different direction to Haley?

For the record I think Haley should get another season and I think the offensive did improve; it became a strength in the last 8 games. But another season missing the playoffs and the team will have to do something, (Rooney's firing LeBeau, really?) so is there an element of preparation with this move, Dale?

Provided he does sign, of course

IIRC, Munchak has never been an OC.

Teams that just fire coaches to "do something" after a bad season are usually the perennial losers of the league.

See: Browns, Cleveland

No element of preparation. They want to hire the best guy available

That is, of course, provided he can be slotted in salary-wise. They aren't, for example, going to pay the line coach more than their coordinators.
