Take the Steelers and the over

The over/unders from Las Vegas are in for the NFL season and though I don't play them, if I did, I'd have to go over with the Steelers.

Depending on which service you look at, the Steelers are sitting at 10.5 or 11. Given their schedule, I'd have to go over on that. If the Steelers don't win 12 games in 2009 with the schedule they have, shame on them.

Other numbers I like looking around the AFC include the Colts over 10 – Peyton Manning is still the QB, right? – the Jets under 7, the Chargers over 10 and the Broncos under 6.5.

Interesting. I'd take the over on the Steelers also. The Colts, Broncos and Jets all have so many question marks with coaching and personnel moves, but that's what makes this all so tough to gauge.

Broncos under 6.5, that is telling about what Vegas thinks about Mcdaniels so far. I think if you look at what Tomlin did and Mcdaniels did when they took their first coaching jobs you see who the smarter man is.

Tomlin steps into a team with a great 34 defense. Rather than assert his ego he lets the team stay the way it is and it flourishes. He adds some cover two tweeks to the pass defense, improving it in his own way, but essentially saying "if it ain't broke don't fix it"
Year 2 Super Bowl.

Mcdaniels steps into a team with a great offense. Instead of working within that offense to make it better he tries to assert his ego because having things his way is more important than winning. He fires offensive coaches and manages to alienate their QB with trade talk for HIS guy Cassel. Culter splits and now his superstar WR is demanding out as well because he saw Cutler get his way earlier.

Tomlin will still be coaching the Steelers when Mcdaniels on his 3rd or 4th team as an assistant coach. It is fair to say that Tomlin inherited a team with more talent than Mcdaniels is getting but its what he did differently with that talent this will be so telling. Mcdaniels could turn things around and surprise is but I wouldn't bet on it.
