Steelers-Ravens game thread

Greetings from Baltimore.

The weather has cleared up here after the threat of rain early.

Inactive for the Steelers tonight are Landry Jones, Martavis Bryant, Lance Moore, Wes Johnson, Chris Hubbard and Daniel McCullers.

With Archer out tonight, look for Markus Wheaton to return kickoffs.

The big news for Baltimore is that cornerback Lardarius Webb is out. There was a chance that he'd play after sitting out the preseason and first game with a back issue.

With Webb down, Chykie Brown will start at corner. That's a juicy matchup for the Steelers.

23-16 steelers

For the sake of our run defense this game I hope Stephon Tuitt plays more than Cam Thomas.

20-16 steelers

I see Suisham missing a field goal Patrick. I didn't see your score when I wrote mine. Good choice.

Missed tackles already.....

Cam Thomas!

Throw the ball up and hope for a penalty...ravens best play.

Anonymous said...

Is brown out for rest of game?

Anonymous said...

Missed tackles, missed tackles....

Anonymous said...

Seems like brown is out, more missed tackles, Ike, Allen. Steelers are killing themselves with penalties and appear flat

Anonymous said...

I stand corrected, Brown is back

Anonymous 5:44 AM said...

Ball is on the freaking 41 and we punt... that's pathetic

Past 4 quarters: opponents 37, Steelers 6

Steelers cannot try a field goal because Suisham not good at long distances. Also, Gilbert who was third last year in the NFL for most sacks allowed gets the contract probably because he did not get injured last year. He is clearly the weak link in this OL and sooner he is replaced by Mike Adams the better! Mike Adams was the rookie of the year on RT but they were keep plugging him on left side. Looking at the score, defense did a decent job, it's the Steelers high octane offense that could not score enough points. Let's tuned into second half

Good thing we didn't pay Marcus Gilbert a ton of money - oh wait we did, damn

BlackNGold said...

Yes Gilbert is being abused

Theosa I love you but Mike Adams is awful. Only reason he's even still on the team is because he's on a second round draft pick scholarship. He's a good run blocker but he's so bad at pass pro it's not even a realistic option.

Theosa said...

All opinions are respected but Mike Adams was awful at LT not RT. Gilbert has allowed 4 sacks already in 2 games with some penalties to go with it. It's the same situation as Cam Thomas and Tuit, bench one to bring some motivation in them. Realistically, I know Steelers won't bench Gilbert after awarding a fat contract but hey we fan can whine right? Lol

They have got to figure out a way to get some pressure

Anonymous said...

Can't get pressure, can't cover, can't tackle, can't stop with the penalties.

Theosa said...

Steelers are being blown out. I wonder Gilbert and Cortez Allen signing was based on what? Rewarding mediocre players if you ask me.

BlackNGold said...

Our defense is younger and faster, but other than that the same as last year. No pressure and no turnovers. Plus so far, many more penalties.

Turn out the lights, the party's over. I know, I saw last week's game, but we're not the Browns.

Theosa said...

How about the offense, weren't they supposed to bail the defense out tis year? Same old Steelers of 2012 and 2013 to me.

Anonymous said...

I think Ike mentored Allen on how to catch a football.

Anonymous said...

Problem is they can't throw deep because o-line can't give him enough time.

I wondered which team would show up this week.. what happened to their fire and intensity?

Theosa said...

To continue venting, Jarvis Jones is so far overwhelmed in NFL. Dick LeBeau has decided to give S. Smith 10 yards cushion, maybe he is mistaking him for Mike Wallace or AJ Green.

does foster look back at ben before EVERY snap. If so, why? its strange

and I like Wheaton but him and Ben are just off on that one route tonight. They keep trying it and it will be a pick 6. Prob doesn't matter but its ugly.

Anonymous said...

wow, really embarrassing at this point, all phases have played poorly.

Unknown said...

Play calling is terrible.. where is the no huddle we heard so much about coming into the season?

Unknown said...

46 yds in the second half?

Anonymous said...

Those two bullshit penalties just killed it for me. I can barely watch his game. I hate hochuli his crew throws flags like candy.

Anonymous said...

Very disappointing. D-line getting blown off the ball now. Mitchell just got schooled. Ugly, ugly, ugly.

Who is that running back for the Ravens, Dorsett? Tony? Oh Forsett. Well the Steelers are making him look like Dorsett.

Theosa said...

On a positive note Steelers did draft stud in Bell and Brad Wing is looking good too, and Brad is with Steelers by luck or we all know Steelers prefer Veterans no matter how bad they play.

Patrick,

A lot of teams do that on the road. The guard looks back for the signal instead of the center looking between his legs. It helps the center be able to make the lines calls while the defense is still shifting too.

This game is turnovers, penalties, and Ben not looking sharp after the first quarter. I didn't expect them to win and I don't much care about "making a game of it." A loss is a loss.

I'll join the chorus finding the bright spot in Bell. The offense should run through A. Brown and Bell all day.

Let’s face the ugly truth, Steelers are plain average since the demise of the great Steelers defense 2004-2010, Big Ben could not save the boat and Coach Tomlin is one player away (Ben) from a coach that is nursing a 4-12 or even 2-14 team. We were expecting at least the offense to show since they are the more talented bunch but they are inconsistent and turn over the ball way too much. Remind me of the days when Coach T made Mendenhall (then rookie) carry the ball with him around the camp since he lost some fumbles in practice, I don’t see that kind of accountability these days, just not enough talent to afford it, too many bad drafts!

Horrible second half by Ben, just terrible.

Anonymous said...

This team will likely miss the playoffs for the 3rd straight year. What's it gonna take for Tomlin and Colbert to be fired?

Anonymous said...

Steelers blown out for past 6 quarters. Defense still can't stop the run, still can't pressure the QB. Bell and brown are great, but that's it right now. Timmons is getting abused in the passing game. If that's the best the d-line can play then I say put the young guys in and let them learn on the fly. Disgusting game.

Theosa said...

This team lacks leaders, even average team will show some fight, maybe Sanders was onto something! Alright I'm done B*cthing, we'll leave it Dale Lolley to make us feel good.

run for 11
run for 16
run for 6
take a sack

I don't care what kind of look you're getting. Looks can be deceptive, gotta make them stop the run there.

thanks Kyle, that makes sense. Maybe its because Foster looks like a gentle giant but it just looked really awkward.

This was a bad game, but when you have the penalties they had plus the turnovers, its going to be ugly.

Lets face it, they will split with the Ravens. They usually do. So they lost to the Ravens in Balt on a short week. Who knew.

Ben had a rough game and his chemistry with Wheaton was very inconsistent. Something was just off. Justin Brown was pretty bad too. But Gilbert takes the cake here. The team has to be really disappointed in him.

I like to blame Tomlin whenever possible, but this wasn't on him.

Anonymous said...

How much money are the Steelers on the hook for with Gilbert's contract? If he has a terrible year and we cut him next summer does that put dead money on the cap the next four seasons?

adamg said...

Only watched into the 3rd qtr, but those 2 unneccessary roughness flags were ridiculous and sapped whatever momentum the Steelers had. The first call against Troy was awful - the exact same hit was put on AB with no call, then Mitchell's hit that jarred the ball loose, borderline at best. Even Carey said that Mitchell was aiming for the chest.

After this game, I hope the Rooneys do what Balt did a few years ago and say they won't play anymore away prime time games there.

McClendon looked all right, I thought. Any updates on the injury?

Worilds, Allen, Gilbert, Mitchell's performance last night. The contract guys.

I really don't see it as a few things going wrong and snowballing, or traveling on a short week (Baltimore is close, first week of the season, fresh as you're going to be for a Thursday).

It looked to me like they were physically dominated by the Ravens. Tighten up some miscommunication here, be gap sound there, that line of thinking, etc. - it would help, obviously, but it feels far worse than that on defense.

The offense is a typical 2007-present Steelers offense, not worried, i.e., all over the place but ultimately average.

I think the big hit on Ben early threw him off for the rest of the game. He was atrocious last night.
