Thursday's news and notes

Thursday's practice report is the same as Wednesday's for the Steelers.

Troy Polamalu, Will Allen, Arnaz Battle and Bryant McFadden all sat out again for the Steelers.

Aaron Smith was again limited.

The Steelers, however, expect to have everyone available with the exception of Allen and Smith.

© Jason Taylor was cleared to return to practice for the Jets after suffering a concussion last week.

But, the Jets continue to have a number of defensive backs who are limited, including Darrelle Revis.

© Polamalu, by the way, has always been very active visiting hospitals and talking with sick children there.

Apparently, he's developed a friendship with one young lady who has Ewing's Sarcoma, which forced her to have part of a lung and several ribs removed.

Here's a picture of Polamalu visiting the young lady at the hospital. Yes, they're playing Guitar Hero.

Polamalu and the young lady share texts, even in a big week like this one, and he brought her his game jersey from the win over Baltimore.

troy polamalu is as close to a real hero as a football player can be. i hope i have an ounce of the integrity and character he has.

Unfortunately, the young girl lost her battle with cancer in early 2010. Troy still offers support to the family now and again.

Dale, Tunch and Wexell are talking like B-Mac won't be able to play, or at least will be very limited.

If true, this would be potentially disastrous. I don't want to see Anthony Madison on the field at all at CB.

How important is the Will Allen injury?

This might finally be the game that our offense has to win for us.

too bad they didnt try and groom Keenan Lewis this year

now they are stuck with garbage

also they are dumb for trading Holmes to one of the top teams in the AFC. they should have traded him to the NFC and it could cost them a trip to the Super Bowl

which only works if a team in the NFC wanted him. Everyone who worries about our DB against their WR do realize they still have Sanchez as the QB right? I think I read somewhere he has only had 4 passes 9+ yards in the playoffs. He is the epitome of a game manager. If the Jets can't bring the pressure on special teams and defense they are in trouble. This Jets team is similar to the 05 Steelers except while Ben played lights out against the Bengals, Colts, and Broncos, I can't say I see the same thing from Sanchez.

even if macfadden plays he will obviously be hampered.

i expect #43 will be deep most of the time to provide support to the corners. clark will have more freedom to play the run like he did against the ravens and the LB's will need to help cover the quick slants to holmes. that means less blitzing and more responsibility for the d-line to pressure sanchez.

there may be some new zone blitzes mixed in, but not too often will more than 4 guys rush the QB, imo.

kiesel and hood are my keys to this game for the defense. if they play well, the jets offense should not score more than 14 pts.

yeah who would want a #1 WR in his prime and is a SB MVP for the steep price of a 5th rd draft pick???

u r an idiot

thats a dumb idea. the should blitz Sanchez for obvious reasons

IMO, the D doesn't need to do anything different this game than in week 15. Our D gave up 13 points...our offense scored 17. If those 2 numbers hold on Sunday we win. We lost that game on special teams and one stupid play call at the goal line (which of note was set up by a punt - special teams play).

Just play smart intense football. We have playmakers all over the field. QB, RB, WR, TE, S, LB, DE. Games like this often come down to matchups of individuals...well we have more playmakers IMO than they do. If we play smart, we win.

Go Bears!!

I see that somebody posted something bad about Sanchez.I did the same thing and Dale deleted it.
PC all the way there at the old rag O-R.
I think ol Dale is a racist

All reports were that the best offer the Steelers got for Holmes was a 5th round choice. Remember, Holmes was in the last year of his contract and the Steelers weren't going to re-sign him. Holmes also was suspended for the first 4 games because of his drug use. In the end, the Steelers made good use of the extra pick getting several useful players for this year's team and beyond.

Only when you posted something referring to his heritage, bozo.

And if the O-R is an old rag, you're more than welcome to go somewhere else.

sanchez is young and inconsistent, but look at his last 4 games played - all against playoff teams.

in those games he is 77 of 122 (63%) for 822 yards, 4 TD's and 2 INT's.

moreover, he was only sacked 2 times in those games. he is getting the ball out quickly and reading the blitzes well.

if the steelers bring the house and the jets max protect, the steelers will lose the coverage battle against the WR's, imo. really, who do you think will win the jump ball - edwards or macfadden/gay/madison?

marc - are u new to the Steelers? We get after QBs, thats our bread and butter. Our D front 7 is the strength of the team. If we sit back, we will get picked apart. Must destroy Sanchez and force him into dumb mistakes and turnovers EZ game

Wow, who is the idiot? Not many teams want a guy that is one strike away from a year long suspension (strike 3 in the subtance abuse rules).

Thats why the 'market price' was so low. And, the Steelers already had a deal with the Cardinals BEFORE the trade. If the Steelers were not going to get a DB, the deal for McFadden and a 5th was there.

Also, look up MWallace's numbers this year. Better than ANY year Holmes has had with the Steelers.

Way to keep up Einstein.

Man, has this been a long week!? Come @6:00pm Sunday put the babies to bed, kiss the wife goodnight. Open up those bottles and have a seat because as the doctor said when Bart Scott was being born ... "it's gonna get UGLY!"
CAN'T WAIT!
Let's GO STEELERS

Just remember that the Chargers were unable to work out a deal for Vincent Jackson, who was in the same situation as Holmes.

They wanted more in return and were unable to get it.

The next thing you know Dale will be saying that Sanchez is NOt a Mexican. That is all I said about him, except that he was dumb.
If I said your were a an American, I guess it would be deleted because it is bad to be called an American. I did not you you any names so, don't call me any.

BTW: I like the O-R because I can wrap my garbage in the sports section.

can u give us any updates on injury status from Fridays practice or anything useful at all except a random prediction?
