Sitting down with Rod

I sat down with length today with former Steelers cornerback and current Hall of Fame finalist Rod Woodson.

Woodson, now an analyst for the NFL Network, was very concerned about the Steelers' matchup with the Cardinals because of what Arizona can do offensively spreading a defense out.

I'll have more on that in Thursday's Observer-Reporter.

Looking forward to the upcoming articles, Dale. Thanks for what I'm sure is a stressful week this week.

Are the Rooney's also around this week? Or is Colbert representing the front office?

I think we match up better with their 4 and 5 reciever set than we are given credit for. Ike Taylor is 6'2 compared to Fitz's 6'4 so it isn't like the height advantage is that big at all. Deshea and Mcfadden can both matchup decently with Boldin and either of these guys can handle Breaston. If you round this all out with Gay, who is a really good #4 guy, our secondary is pretty good, and I haven't even mention Troy yet.

I am not saying we will shut them down, just that them spreading us out isn't going to put is in that bad of a matchup. We have a #1 corner who is almost as big as Larry F. and two other corners that would both be #2 corners for most teams. That is some really good depth.

It's not as if the Cardinals where unstoppable this year orforthat matter good much of the time. Alot of teams figured out how to stop them.

They spread everyone out and most teams lack the Steelers depth at'D'.

Could they win-sure, but I think it's the Steelers game to lose.

Dale,
I know that the Cars are a 7 point underdog. It seems as though the media is making it out as though they are a 14 point underdog. I see how this can work in there favor.. however if the Steelers go up by 14 points, do the guys on the opposite sideline start to believe that they really shouldn't be in the game with the Steelers?

The entire Steelers front office is here, so yes, the Rooneys are here. There's no way they would miss this.

The Steelers have struggled against the spread in the past, but few teams did it to them this year because they feared the pass rush.

i think Timmons has helped a lot in terms of coverage. h has the speed to take away a lot of that underneath stuff.

i'm more concerned about stopping Edge. he is very good at getting YAC and turning 2nd and 10 into 2nd and 7.

All four of our corners have started games this year, I think they match up very well. We have had great rotations on all levels of our defense the entire year and I think that will continue Sunday.
