I can't drive, 365

According to Jim Wexell of SteelCityInsider.com, Casey Hampton weighed in at an impressive 365 pounds when he showed up at training camp, 25 more than the team wanted him at and 40 more than his listed weight.

That pretty much makes Hampton one of the biggest fat athletes in Pittsburgh history, though a now trim and slim Max Starks was pretty close to that weight last season.

Actually, that's not all that much heavier than what Hampton has reported at in previous camps as well.

The only difference is that Mike Tomlin decided to put his foot down with it this year. Gotta send a message.

Hampton also cost himself a nice chunk of bonus money for reporting overweight, but apparently that was not a concern to him.

Dale,

Are you and Jim doing a weekly talk show this year?

He should be ashamed of himself.

Just ridiculous he can't show up for camp in shape. Now he lost that bonus. Hope it was worth it.

Does Casey seem upset with himself? Is he at all embarrassed? I, for one, love Hampton, but he's got to realize that he's not the player he could be when he's so heavy. It shouldn't be that hard for a guy that's 6 feet tall to keep his weight under 340 lbs.!

His comments to the press regarding the situation seemed less than apologetic...

I seen footage of Casey "waddling" on KDKA yesterday and he looks bigger than ever! Granted, he's always been a beast of a man but his health has to be of concern. It's been already 7 years since we lost the talented Korey Stringer due to a camp overheating. The last thing Mr. Tomlin wants is for his All-Pro Nose Guard to drop dead in middle of practice! I also seen a picture of Casey being motivated by none other than Mean Joe Greene on the cover of PPG. Do you know what's going on there, Dale???

Lost in the Laurel Highlands.

Max Starks might have been 365lbs, but he's 6'8" too. Hampton is only 6'1". That's a lot of pounds to be packing on that frame. I think even 340 is too heavy for him to play effectively, to be honest. I won't be surprised that if he isn't at 340 or under by September, he'll be on the PUP for the first 6 weeks.

Dale,

What are the effects of this? We are a little over a month away from the season and Casey needs to lose at least 20 lbs you would think. Is that even possible to do and stay fit at the same time?

Do you think we lose him for the first 6 weeks on the PUP list? I know thats extreme but he sounds bad.

or does Chris Hoke come in a lot more earlier in games and get more plays earlier in the season now? Can anybody realistically expect Hampton to be ready for a 4th quarter grind

For a guy with as much extra weight as Casey, 20lbs isn't as hard to lose as it sounds. He can do that in a month or so.

Casey could probably lose 20 pounds on one trip to the bathroom.
I will be doing some radio, I'm finalizing things now. But I don't think it will be with Jim. They wouldn't trust us to get in and out of breaks - I guess - since we're not in the business.
I'll let you guys know my radio schedule when I get it.
