Sepulveda done for season

Punter Daniel Sepulveda had tests done on his sore right (non-kicking) leg Tuesday and they showed that he had torn his ACL.

Sepulveda, a fourth-round pick last season, is done for the season.

The Steelers have claimed Paul Ernster off of waivers from the Detroit Lions.

It's a huge blow to the Steelers' special teams, especially considering the team had just one punter in camp this year and had high hopes for Sepulveda in his second season.

Do you know how he did it? Seems very odd to have a punter go down in practice!

The injury bug is hitting the Steelers early this year. I wonder if Gardocki will get a call shortly even though they claimed a punter.

Dale, any chance the Steelers will bring in Scott Player? His mustache and helmet are worth it.

It's the same ACL he tore in college and he said it's always had some looseness in it.
I asked Mike Tomlin if they would bring in another punter as well and he said that could be a possibility down the road.

Well thats a bummer! I guess he may of failed to say anything about that when they drafted him? Or docs didnt notice during physical. I put this blame on the docs who said he is good for drafting.

Dale, what about the kid from Appalachian State? And who'll be the holder for Reed now?

gentlemen...

Let's not get our thongs in a bunch, please!!! Sepulveda was average at best last season and sure did not live up to his 4th round status. He let some real stinkers out there if your memories work correctly. It's a good thing it happened at this stage in the season and not 8 games into the regular season. I don't give a darn if the "great" Ray Guy is back there kicking the ball 80 yards every time, if you can't tackle the slippery sunuvabirch with the ball it don't matter!!! Sorry Daniel, you're very replaceable.

Ernster was HORRIBLE in the two games he played last season. In one he had a 15 yd. punt, in the other a 17 yarder (both from deep in his own end - not positional type kicks). Lemme put it this way - Ernster makes Chris Gardocki look like Ray Guy.

I REALLY hope the Steelers start looking at other options. If they want a vet Mitch Berger is better than Ernster & is still a FA. And if rookies are worth the look, I haven't found Mike Dragosavich (the #2 rated P in this year's draft) on any NFL roster either. Last I saw he had signed with the Pats after the draft as their 3rd punter, but was cut on June 5th.

That is a darn shame. He is a nice guy and I hope for a speedy recovery. Definitely a blow for our special teams. I was looking for better things from him. I wish him well in his recovery.

Ernster was awful in that game against the Steelers, but in his defense, if I remember right, they signed him like the day before the game off the street.
The Steelers knew all about the knee injury prior to drafting him.

The Browns were desparate for a punter when they signed Ernster. He's was awful in the game against the Steelers.

Is appears Jeremy Kapinos is out there. He punted well his last couple of years at Penn State and also had some experience last year with the Jets.

Ernster was signed just before that game, but he had gone through training camp with the Broncos, so it's not like he was out of the game the whole time before that.

I'm just hoping we're looking at other options that could actually turn into something at the NFL level (hint, hint, Dragosavich, hint, hint).
