Sweed, Warren done for year

The Steelers announced Monday that wide receiver Limas Sweed and long snapper Greg Warren will miss the rest of the season.

Sweed, a former second-round draft pick, is on the reserve non-football illness list. He missed Sunday's 37-36 win over Green Bay with an illness.

Warren, a fifth-year pro, has been placed on the reserve/injured list. He injured his right knee after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament on the final play of Sunday’s game against Green Bay.

Apparently the only thing he can catch is a cold.

has to be swine flu. Actually, with how that sounds, swine flu might not be that bad. Hopefully it is nothing worse. Get well Sweed

c'mon guys, he might be really sick. make sure he's ok before you pile on him.

I suppose when you drop passes the way Sweed has it's only expected that you're going to get dumped on by the fans. That said, I have watched a few interviews of the kid. He's sincere, articulate and genuinely wants to do well.

Let's give him one more season before we make a final judgement.

DALE - WILL TROY POLAMALU PLAY THIS WEEKEND?

Anonymous said...

So, I guess the big questions left to be answered are...

will Troy finally play this weekend? will Shipley be moved up? will Galloway be signed? will Lewis be active?

What are your thoughts Dale??

Galloway and Retkofsky have signed. Dale, why not shaun McDonald? Did he fall out of favor with the team? Does he not want the part time work? Seems odd they wouldn't sign someone with knowledge of the play book.

who cares if they sign Galloway or McDonald, neither will see the field

Well, the way Hines Ward is feeling/looking I wouldn't say they won't see the field. Whoever it is they bring in better be able to at least be a #3 for the team.

With Sweed down, they needed a guy who could play multiple positions. You couldn't put McDonald on the outside. Strictly a slot guy in this offense.

As for Sweed, he does seem like a pretty good guy. I hope he gets better - though I haven't heard with any certainty what the problem is. We can assume swine flu, but we don't know for sure yet.

I think Polamalu will play this week. Again, I'll find out more about that Wednesday.

He's got the Limabeatus. It's gotten so bad that it just drained all the moisture from his hands that allow him to hold onto passes. Tragic.

if you're gonna bash sweed for drops, you better bash other receivers as well. ward flubbed a gimme over the middle at a key point in the game. wallace let one sail through his hands inside the 5 yard line. and i'm sure there's more.

don't get me wrong, sweed obviously needs to improve his hands, but our receivers have dropped some pretty big balls this year (holmes).

They were actually fortunate Wallace dropped that one inside the 5. They had no timeouts remaining and the play began with 18seconds left. But the point is well taken. Other receivers have drops as well. But people like to pick on Sweed.

I think its because to go with those drops, those other receivers have made key catches as well. Hines has a history of clutch grabs, Holmes has the Raven games and the Superbowl, and so far it seems that Wallace is making more catches than drops. Personally I think Sweed just needs to catch a ball like Holmes did in the superbowl or Wallace did at the end of the Packer game to build up his confindence.

marc - you've got to be a goddam idiot to criticize Wallace for anything

congrats

what's with all these idiots still defending Sweed? even i am not that stupid

I don't know what side to take with Sweed, except I think he deserves more opportunities. This town was going to write Mendy off as a bust and, if it weren't for Parker going down, we might still be criticizing him.

Limas has had key drops, but why doesn't anyone recognize his ability to get wide open. If it weren't for him being so open, I don't think he would take as much criticism. Granted, he gets paid to catch the ball, but it seems like he has a good feel for the game.

Also, besides the key drop against Cincy, he seemed to be turning the corner. He had a number of tough catches in the preseason. To me he is still a worthy #4 and there is no reason Tyler Grisham should even sniff the field for this team.

What good is being able to catch if you can't get open, and, I know I haven't seen enough of Grisham, but a 5-10 170 lb receiver with 4.6speed is not a commodity. He's an average person who is lucky enough to be on pro roster.
