Winning while off

The Steelers were a big winner on Sunday despite being off.

How so?

Looking around this league after Sunday's action and you have to ask yourself, who exactly is any good?

OK, Baltimore is good, but the Steelers already went toe-to-toe with the Ravens sans Ben Roethlisberger.

Tennessee went into Dallas and beat the Cowboys and now own wins at Dallas and the Giants, but the Steelers have already beaten Tennessee.

The NFC may not have one good team, though Atlanta has gotten off to a good start and now looks like the favorite.

But again, the Steelers have beaten the Falcons - without Roethlisberger.

With San Diego losing at Oakland, ending a 13-game winning streak against the Raiders, the AFC shapes up like the Steelers, Ravens and Jets, with Indianapolis clinging precariously to a spot among those teams, and then everybody else.

...and the Ravens already have a win over the Steelers, and the Jets have the Steelers' best WR.

I can't see the Steelers favored over either.

the chargers always start late. I wouldn't rule them out

carry over from the last thread, I don't think NE can be forgotten.

The Steelers are capable of beating or losing to anybody, we'll see what happens.

Steelers will be at home against the Jets. They'll be favored by three in that game.

NE is still there in the East, and Chicago showed today it could win without its key player. Even though it was against Carolina, doing that with Todd Collins was very good.

Baltimore is getting its running game on track. They are rising as the class of the AFC

At the beginning of the season everyone had the Steelers picked as 3rd best in their own division. At a minimum they're now considered a wild card team and with Ben back they have a decent chance of competing for the Division. I give the Ravens a little bit of an edge in the only because the next time we play them the Ravens will be the home team but it's close.

Does it bother anyone else that the Ravens spent the off-season getting better, whereas the Steelers spent the off-season trading away their best WR and collaborating with the league on suspending their franchise QB, who was never charged with a crime?

Why is Art II more concerned with protecting the team's image than with winning games?

Anon, you're short sighted and can't see the forest for the trees. Why don't you go support the Bungles, they suffered through one off the field incident after another and its never won them a superbowl. yes, we want a superbowl now but we don't want a team full of thugs to cheer for.

Really? I mean, REALLY?? Doubting the rooneys? They have brought home six lombardis for a reason. They know what they are doing better than anyone else

What, you wanted them to use their draft picks to get some pricey receiver? They did get better, using those draft picks the way they always do-drafting. Ben may not have been charged with a crime, but they know he needed to change his ways, and by all accounts it's working. They made a huge investment, 102 million in him, so they are gonna make sure he's not an idiot anymore

We'll all thank them, again, when ben wins his 3rd ring

maybe, but it doesn't bother me at all.

As I look at it, the AFC is about as wide open as it gets. Teams worked to get better this offseason, including the Steelers, we just improved in different areas or different ways.

We didn't go out and spend money on 2 UFA WRs, we drafted 2 young guys who both look like they can play in this league. With Ben back, I bet we really see what they can do now. We also brought in 2 unspectacular role playing WRs to the team who will help the young ones grow and fill a requested role on the team.

We needed help on the Oline, we drafted a center. We were getting old at the OLB position, we drafted 2. In addition we brought back some an older depth player in Foote who knows the system and can plug right in if needed. We needed a CB who could start, we traded for one and drafted another. We needed depth at the Safety position...we did that.

Don't panic people. The Baltimore loss was disappointing since it was there for the taking, but we played that game without Ben and any time you have a gameplan which requires your D to win the game since your O can't score, at some point you get burned. If we had gotten 1, just 1 first down instead of getting 4 penalties on our last possession we win that game...period.

The Ravens got better in the short term, while the Steelers, per usual, set themselves up for the future.

The Ravens WRs- all over the age of 30

The Steelers- Just one over the age of 30 (i don't count El) Wallace, Brown, and Sanders

Steelers have someone to anchor their line for the next decade, while the Rats are still trying to get the most out of their Matt Birk investment.

The Steelers have acquired quality depth at numerous positions and can withstand the inevitable injuries that will ensue in the latter weeks.

The Ravens are scary thin at numerous positions, not to mention lack a natural pass rush.

No, not this year. If that were the case, we would not have gone 3-1 without our franchise QB. I don't think ppl quite understand how good this team will be with Ben back.

You see the way RUSHard is running the ball? Now imagine that with Ben forcing 2 deep safeties.
