Clearing up some things

There's been a lot of talk back and forth between Pittsburgh and Minnesota fans about what did and did not occur in Sunday's meeting between the two teams.

First, Heath Miller did interfere with the Minnesota defender at the goal line. Was it away from the play? Yes. But Miller extended his arm on contact and that's going to get called every time.

Second, Jeff Dugan threw his legs up backward on his cross body block on James Harrison which is going to get called as a trip every time. Had he just dove at Harrison's legs, he'd have been OK. He didn't.

Finally, Harrison did not take a dive at Brett Favre's knee. He was held on the play by Bryant McKinnie - which was rightfully called for a penalty – and his momentum from that hold carried him into Favre's knees.

Last time I checked, the Vikings have a big game coming up this week with Green Bay. Maybe the Vikings trolls will finally start thinking about that game.

Can't have it both ways - not a penalty by Dugan if not a penalty by William Gay when AP decleated him - now that is throwing your legs up!!!

What really bothers me is how the national media picked up on this leg whip penalty and made a big issue of it. Like that one penalty decided that game and as if it was the only penalty called that wiped out a TD. Even James Walker on ESPN, who I normally like, made a big deal about it.

PS, did anyone see Percy Harvin cut block Polamalu at the knees? Talk about cheap. Why is cutting out a QB's knees a cheap shot that deserves a penalty in the name of "player saftey" but cutting the knees of a defender is no big deal? I am not saying cut blocking should be a penalty, just that hitting a QB in the knees shouldn't be any different.

You can only call tripping if the guy actually tripped him. There's no 'attempted tripping' penalty. Had Gay been able to take AP down w/ his legs, it would've been called tripping. Quit your bitching you whiney Vikings fans.

Dale, I agree with everything you said. Why Vikes fans can't be man about it and admit they were both tickey-tack yet CORRECT calls, i don't know.

And another thing, I cannot remember the last time the Steelers won a 'big' game like this and people didn't start whining and crying about this that or the other thing. Whether a penalty, a questionable call, or something else, the world loves to bitch when the steelers win.

Or maybe it b/c I'm a steelers fan living in columbus Ohio... surrounded by Browns and Bengals fans....

danpio1217, If there is no such thing as "attempted tripping", than why did Dugan get called for it? His legs did come up, but clearly he led the block with his shoulder. Just like Gay's play, the legs came up, but did not make contact.

To focus on the tripping call as somehow a key moment is pure denial by vikings fans. How about 1st and goal and being unable to score? How about failing to execute when you had the ball at the end of the game?
Blame everyone else for your own ineptitude. The vikings could have won that game in many different moments and they simply failed to do the job. It really makes me chuckle . . .
It was a close call . . . so what? Score on the next play. oh but we don't want to talk about that . . .our own failure to protect the QB or tackle Woodely . . . we'd rather blame the ref. because it takes our mind off the fact that the steelers D took control of the game.

I am a vikings fan and unfortuantely that call was a 14 point swing in the game. The fact is that we have forgotten how to tackle in the open field and THAT is why we lost the game. The steelers didn't really win the game as the vikings lost it for themselves. Taylors horrible attempt at a catch. #40 dropping the ball in the end zone, Not running AP when on the 1 inch line..... We stood up to the world champs and almost won.... next time we meet them the W will be on our side!

The reason the Vikes didn't win is because they couldn't get a TD with 1st and goal from the 12 inch line. They have an all word RB and they couldn't get it in because they refused to run him. Then their gutless coach desided to kick a FG. You give the ball to Peterson 4 times from the 12 inch line everytime.

These whiney Vikings trolls have no one to blame but their clueless and gutless coaching staff.

Also, where's the talk of Purple Jesus being shut down all day? Is that what All Day (AD) means? Shut down All Day against the Steelers D? And it doesn't help when old man Favre has to throw 50 times, he is bound to screw up once or twice, it's in is nature.

Were these trolls Seahawk fans in Feb '06? My guess is yes.

Even if the refs missed that tripping on Harrison and the TD stood, Ben would lead the offense down the field for a TD anyway. The better team won Sunday that's the bottom line. By the way, If it was the Ravens who made those 2 plays by their defense they'd be all over themselves jumping back on that bandwagon.

very interesting...i bumped into a guy i know thru work who was a NFL TE for a few years (about 15 years ago) and we got to discussing that tripping penalty.

in his eyes, it was clearly tripping and that some teams teach RB's and TE's that if you roll block and the guy is going over you to stick your legs out and try to trip him. he said that guy got called for it probably because he didn't make any contact with harrison except for his leg.

thought i would pass that along.

The bandwagon Minny fans still don't know that Adrian Peterson's nickname is AD and not AP? Shocking. Can't wait for the team to move to LA.

I didn't know Vikings fans were such big pussies

Moron, AP is an abbreviation for Adrian Peterson. Typical Squeeler fan - must be from Morgantown.

The rent-a-quarterback vikings are whining about the Steelers? Unbelievable! Aside from Brett Favre's blunders, their defense was horrible. There were few deflected passes that Big Ben threw and nobody on the Vikings defense managed to scoop up. Of course when the Steelers got their opportunities they took advantage of them. Bottom line, turnovers often make the difference. The Steelers were the better team on this day.

You guys clearly didn't see the play... jackasses... Dugan dove at the guy and his legs followed in a straight line behind him. That's what happens when you dive at a guy. Try it. See what happens. Bad call, took 7 away from the Vikings and gave 7 to the Steelers.

wow what an idiot. Calling people jackasses while he is completely WRONG! watch the play. his legs are NOT a straight line behind him. His one leg bends up to TRIP Harrison.

Read that and learn the rule. Watch the video and the people on the NFL Network agree with the call.

Generally when you abbreviate something you're trying to conserve letters, calling Adrian Peterson AP instead of his chosen moniker of AD just makes you look like a jackass who started following football when Lord Favre started wearing purple.

Shouldn't Minnesota fans be mounting a search party for Jared Allen? Pretty sure Captain Mullet disappeared.
