Early undrafted rookie signings for Steelers

These are unconfirmed at this point, but California University of Pennsylvania quarterback Kevin McCabe is among the players the Steelers have agreed to contracts with after the draft.

McCabe originally began his career at Virginia before transferring to Cal.

When I get some confirmation on more players, I'll update.

Derrick Richardson, S, New Mexico State.

Mike Reilly, QB, Central Washington.

Ramon Foster, OT, Tennessee.

Mark Estermyer, long snapper, Pitt.

Tom Korte, ILB, Hillsdale College.

Tyler Grisham, WR, Clemson.

Are any of these players "premier" free agents, which I know may be an oxy moron, but as the defending champs we should get our pick of the litter for most positions other than LB, QB, etc.

I think Mike Reilly is a kid that Jaworski was really high on as an "unknown" QB w/a lot of potential.

I honestly don't know much about any of them other than McCabe.
I can't imagine anyone who has any talent other than offensive linemen or linebackers wanting to sign with this team because of its depth.

Yeah, I don’t think signing with the Super Bowl champions is as desirable as people may think. Sure going to a proven winner is great, but these guys need to hitch their wagon to a team with little to no depth at their particular position.

I like the foster signing. Don’t know about the rest of the guys.

All the qb's will ever do is provide arms to throw to wr's during camp. None of them have a realistic shot to unseat batch or dixon as backups.

Mike Reilly broke pretty much all of John Kitna's records at Central Washington. He's big and tough and a great passer. It'll be interesting to see if he can adapt to the faster pro game.

Hey Dale, do you know anything about the Ashley Lelie visit? I'm not sure what I think about it... My first reaction is nooooo, but what do I know?

Foote move was poor in my mind, we just went from overwhelming strength to starting strength to save ~$3. Seems rather short sighted, but I hope I'm wrong.

I found this link on FA's from another website: http://www.nepatriotsdraft.com/2009/04/2009-undrafted-free-agent-signings-list.html

They have the Steelers getting a WR, Demiko Goodman, from Newman College.

Foote wasn't going to beat Timmons for the starting spot. The Steelers must be confident in someone on the roster to fill the back up role to Timmons so they can get some cap room. Since I'm not a cap guy, I'm going to take wild guess and say the money is for the rookies and perhaps Health.

D'oh - I meant Heath not Health
