According to KDKA-TV's Bob Pompeani – perhaps the hardest-working TV reporter in Pittsburgh – the Steelers and linebacker James Harrison could have a new deal by next week.
Pompeani reports the deal would be worth $45 million, which tells me it's likely a four-year extension for the 30-year-old Pro Bowl linebacker.
The Steelers will likely have to move some money around to strike a deal like that, but that probably won't be too big of a problem.

Mark Madden said on his show last week that he has an inside source that said the Steelers have no intentions to extend Harrison. So which one is it?
Considering that the people who are stating or hinting at no deal are the likes of Madden and Florio, I'd put my money more on the reports that a deal will be made soon.
Dale what do you think the chances are that they have a deal in principle and are just waiting for the Steelers to make the money available? My thinking is that they might announce a Starks deal the same day they announce the Harrison one.
What other money can they move around? Extend some of the guys with big numbers this year who only have a year left? Hampton, Ward etc?
It would be nice to get all of these things done before the draft and I think they will. The Harrison deal could be a nice catalyst to the off season.

reporting press conference to be held on Tuesday and deal was struck today.
I trust Bob Pompeani on stuff about the Steelers a hell of a lot more than Madden.
But Madden says he's never wrong.
His commenting on the Steelers would be like me commenting on the Penguins.

Freakin Bart Scott got 5 yrs 48 million and Harrison is twice the player Scott will ever be
