In the moments following their final draft selection Saturday, Steelers director of football operations Kevin Colbert was asked - since the team seems to be intent on collecting former players - if they would have any interest in Alan Faneca/
Faneca is going to be released any day now by the New York Jets.
Colbert said that, for now, the team is finished signing veterans.

Faneca is already on a plane to Arizona.
I'd agree with the Arizona comment because of his close connection to Assistant Coach Russ Grimm, but these castoff Steelers haven't amounted to much outside of Pittsburgh.
Given the fact that the Steelers seem to be set at starting guard for the next year I can't see Faneca coming back to them as a backup. I watched him play with the Jets and it was clear he isn't the player he was 3 years ago. The football world is cruel to veterans. Once they start to deteriorate, they go quickly. Unless he latches on to a bad team Faneca isn't much more than a backup. I loved the guy but it is reality.
Dale,
I know its early but what are your thoughts on the draft overall??
As you know i couldnt be more disappointed w everything but pouncey and the mcfadden trade. How do we take Sanders in that BS Jones offense at leave Shipley who is proven?? At least they got Dixon as an UDFA tho.
Hey Dale, don't know if you posted it somewhere else but, which UDFA did the steelers pick? thanks :)
i was real low on our second round pick until i listened to keith butler talk about him. i guess he ran a 4.51 (espn has him listed at 4.72)at his private workout with the steelers and was better in position drills than any of the other guys they worked out. keith butler specifically mentioned brandon graham. sly is going to be an ilb (humpal.2?) epsn is ripping the steelers for not going DLine, which i think we would have if houston from texas was there when we picked. but we took BPA. I give this draft an A. alot happier after hearing the coaches talk about all of them on steelers.com.
My thoughts on the draft are pretty much here:

Considering the Jets still owe him more than 5 million, most ppl are reporting he'll probably sign for close to the minimum. Why not sign him and see if he can at least up the competition?
