Chief/Joe Greene awards coming today

The Chief Award, given to the Steelers player who best represents former owner Art Rooney's cooperation with the media will be handed out today. It's voted on by the local members of the Pro Football Writers of America, of which I am one.

The winner of this year's award will be something of a surprise.

The Joe Greene rookie of the year award was something of a no-brainer, even though the Steelers have a number of good candidates. It wasn't that long ago that we gave it to Patrick Bailey for his special teams contributions.

Chief Award - Ben?

If it is somewhat of a surprise pick then I'm guessing James Harrison, but Ben might be a better guess.

Ben is the winner. I'm sure the national media will take it and run with it for more than it is. But he's been very good with the local media this year. Better than ever.

Dale, I know it's early, but do you think the Steelers will angle to try and get Mike Pouncey in the 2011 draft? I've read he might not go until the 2nd round so if the Steelers end up with their first round pick near the end of that round, it wouldn't seem that big a reach to take him, would it?

i would love for the Steelers to draft Mike Pouncey but they have much bigger needs at OT and CB

maybe trade up in the 2nd to get Pouncey if he starts to fall

dale, do you have a guess as to how ben will behave in the off season ? he seems to be doing and saying all the right things for now. what are your thoughts on that holding up when he has so much free time ?
the favray "fine" is incomprehensible to me considering br prolly lost 3 million or so.
i don't have twitter, but i see clark's twitters quoted elsewhere, he seems like a great, well spoken guy, is he ?
thanks

Anything I would saw about Ben in the offseason would be a guess. But I would imagine he'll keep his nose clean.

As for Mike Pouncey, let's wait for the season to end before we start speculating about draft picks.
